Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, Shamima Muslim, has underscored the critical role of strategic planning and execution in Ghana’s transformation agenda, emphasizing that President John Dramani Mahama’s renewed focus on infrastructure and partnerships demonstrates his unwavering commitment to national development.

Reflecting on her recent participation in President Mahama’s official visit to the People’s Republic of China, Ms. Muslim highlighted that the trip reinforced the President’s belief in structured planning and deliberate action as the foundation for meaningful and sustainable growth.

“Transformation doesn’t just happen; it is engineered with the right infrastructure,” she remarked, noting that successful economies such as China achieved their rapid progress through a combination of strategic foresight and disciplined implementation.

President Mahama, who was invited by Chinese President Xi Jinping to deliver an address at the opening ceremony of the 30th anniversary commemoration of the 1995 Beijing Conference on Women, also held several bilateral meetings, including one with President Xi, focused on deepening Ghana–China relations.

According to Ms. Muslim, these engagements are part of a broader vision to reset Ghana’s development trajectory through what she called “win-win strategic partnerships” that prioritize sustainable growth and mutual benefit.

She observed that China’s transformation into a global economic powerhouse offers valuable lessons for Ghana, particularly in aligning national ambitions with concrete policies and measurable outcomes.

“China and other countries that turned their economies around within generations have one thing in common — strategic planning and execution,” she said, adding that Ghana’s journey to prosperity requires the same commitment to long-term national interest over short-term political convenience.

Mahama’s Big Push Infrastructure Drive

Ms. Muslim described President Mahama’s “Big Push” initiative — a $10 billion state-driven infrastructure investment — as a cornerstone of his development vision, representing a clear commitment to build the physical and institutional foundations necessary for Ghana’s transformation.

“This explains President Mahama’s long-standing pursuit of infrastructure development as a viable pathway to Ghana’s development”. She further pointed to the President’s recent activities in the Western Region as evidence of his hands-on approach to development.

“On Tuesday, President Mahama visited the Western Region to inspect ongoing projects and cut sod for the dualization of the Cape Coast–Takoradi road. On Wednesday, he launched the Ghana Infrastructure Plan and opened the Transport and Logistics Fair.”

According to her, these actions are not isolated events but interconnected components of a larger, coherent national development strategy.

“The focus on infrastructure — from roads and railways to ports, industries, schools, and hospitals — is deliberate. These are the puzzle pieces for Ghana’s transformation, and President Mahama certainly means business.”

Ms. Muslim urged Ghanaians to match the President’s energy and optimism with collective determination and civic responsibility.  She called for a renewed sense of national purpose, reminding citizens that Ghana’s resources have long contributed to the prosperity of other nations.

She warned that the choice before the nation is clear — either to rise and compete globally or to remain complacent in mediocrity.  “Either choice has a price we must pay, but only one choice will deliver the ultimate prize — one that will return dignity, empowerment, and prosperity to us all,” Ms Muslim said.

Commitment to Sustainable Growth

The Deputy Presidential Spokesperson reiterated that President Mahama’s administration is determined to steer Ghana onto a path of sustainable growth anchored in effective governance, innovation, and accountability.

“President Mahama is ready to build this new Ghana we want together. We deserve better,” she concluded, affirming that the President’s ongoing engagements, both domestically and internationally, reflect his resolve to reposition Ghana as a nation that prioritizes competence, planning, and results.

Ms. Muslim’s remarks echo a broader message from the Presidency: that progress will only come through shared responsibility, visionary leadership, and a unified national resolve to transform potential into prosperity.
