The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has initiated a comprehensive maintenance program to improve supply reliability and address key transmission line issues in the Ashanti Region, as part of its core mandate to restore the power system to its optimal performance.

This strategic intervention aims to minimize unplanned outages and enhance the overall stability of electricity supply in the region.

“Our goal is to ensure that the transmission system operates safely and efficiently”

Ing. James Mensah Yevunya, the Network Maintenance Manager

The maintenance exercise, undertaken by ECG’s Ashanti Sub-Transmission team, involves correcting various defects and technical weaknesses along the transmission lines.

This includes tightening loose fittings, replacing damaged insulators, clearing vegetation, and rectifying conductor sags identified during line patrols.

The maintenance program is a reflection of ECG’s broader commitment to preventive maintenance, a critical factor in delivering consistent and reliable power to support Ashanti’s growing economic and industrial activities.

As the Managing Director of ECG, Ing. Kwame Kpekpena, emphasized during a recent visit to the Ashanti Region, the company is intensifying maintenance and reliability-focused interventions to guarantee uninterrupted and quality power delivery to customers.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has a long and storied history in the country, playing a pivotal role in the nation’s electrification and economic development.

However, the utility has faced its fair share of challenges over the years, including aging infrastructure, technical and transmission losses, and financial constraints, all of which have impacted its ability to deliver reliable and efficient power supply.

Despite these obstacles, ECG has remained steadfast in its dedication to improving its service delivery and supporting the country’s overall development.

The company has embarked on various initiatives to modernize its infrastructure, enhance operational efficiency, and strengthen its financial standing, all while navigating the complex regulatory and policy environment.

This commitment is crucial in supporting the region’s economic growth and development, as reliable electricity is a fundamental enabler for businesses, industries, and households alike.

Beyond the technical interventions, the maintenance program also underscores ECG’s focus on improving its operational efficiency. Addressing the identified issues along the transmission lines, the company is not only enhancing the mechanical strength of the network but also preventing possible flashovers, tripping, and system losses.

This approach aligns with ECG’s broader efforts to optimize its operations and reduce technical and commercial losses, which have historically been a significant challenge for the utility.

Confronting these inefficiencies, the company can direct more resources towards infrastructure development, customer service, and overall system reliability.

The maintenance exercise in the Ashanti Region also highlights ECG’s commitment to fostering collaboration with its stakeholders, including the government, regulatory bodies, and the communities it serves.

Proactively engaging with these stakeholders and addressing their concerns, the company is building trust and strengthening its partnerships, which are crucial for the successful implementation of its strategic initiatives.

The Electricity Company of Ghana’s comprehensive maintenance program in the Ashanti Region is a demonstration of the utility’s dedication to delivering reliable and efficient power supply to its customers.

Rectifying the technical weaknesses in the transmission network, ECG is taking a proactive step towards ensuring the stability and resilience of the power system, ultimately supporting the region’s economic growth and improving the quality of life for its citizens.
