Gold Fields Ghana Engagement

Gold Fields Ghana as part of its commitment to enhancing strong relationships and transparent communication, recently convened its Quarterly Community Consultative Meeting at the Damang Mine.

The platform which allowed the company to engage with key stakeholders, including traditional leaders, and share updates on the developments within its host communities.

This ethos was on full display during the community engagement, where the company’s Community Relations team met with stakeholders to discuss ongoing initiatives, address community concerns, and provide updates on the Damang transition and Gold Fields Ghana Foundation projects.

Gold Fields Ghana has long been a pillar of the Ghanaian economy, contributing significantly to the country’s growth and development.

The company’s operations at the Damang and Tarkwa mines have not only generated substantial revenue for the government but have also created numerous employment opportunities and supported the livelihoods of thousands of Ghanaians particularly, in the host communities.

“As part of the engagement, the team also facilitated an educational session on cyanide, raising awareness about its safe use and management to promote community health and environmental safety.”

This engagement and education forms part of  the crucial components in the gold extraction process.

The session also aimed to equip the local communities with the implications of the chemical used in mining thereby underscoring the company’s commitment to promoting community health and environmental safety.

In recognition of the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation’s efforts to enhance community health and wellbeing, Mr. Timothy Ofori, the Municipal Director of Health Services for Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality, presented a plaque to the Foundation as a token of appreciation.

This gesture underscores the positive impact that the Foundation’s projects have had on the local communities.

The Quarterly Community Consultative Meeting provided a platform for open and transparent dialogue between Gold Fields Ghana and its stakeholders.

The company’s Community Relations team listened to the concerns raised by the community members and provided updates on the ongoing initiatives, including the Damang transition and the various projects undertaken by the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation.
