Showbiz analyst and pundit, Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng, has expressed concern over the ongoing disputes surrounding the funeral preparations of Highlife legend Daddy Lumba.

Speaking in an interview, Vida lamented the continuous public disagreements among family members regarding the funeral arrangements.

She stated that the controversies are damaging the reputation of the late musician and his family. According to her, the situation has shifted the public’s focus from mourning the late musician to engaging in unnecessary debates.

“Why won’t we explore the issue for the family to come together? Daddy Lumba has been on everyone’s lips for weeks. The solemnity is gone because of the controversies.”

She explained that family members who speak publicly are worsening the situation with their unrestrained comments.

“Due to the ongoing controversy, the family members who are known for speaking in public just talk anyhow whenever they’re given the microphone. What bothers me the most is the legacy that Daddy Lumba left behind. Now, there’s nothing protecting it.”

Vida further noted that individuals who do not know the late singer personally have taken to social media to make careless remarks about him and his family.

She also cautioned that such disunity could cost the family potential government support. “Even if the government wants to help with the funeral arrangements, now they won’t because who amongst the family are they going to meet with and discuss the plans?” she questioned.

The analyst urged the elders of the family to unite and consider the lasting consequences of their actions on Daddy Lumba’s image.

“All these are damaging his reputation and that of his family. We will all talk about the issues going on, but in the end, you are the elders, and the consequences that will fall on the family. If it’s something that would help you all, then let’s continue with it.

“Now, when someone mentions Lumba or his family, what will be the perception of people in Ghana? That’s what I want them to focus on. Everything should end, and if we are to hear something about him again, it should be about the funeral preparation so that Lumba can also rest in peace.”

Amid the legal tussle surrounding the late Daddy Lumba’s burial arrangements, Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo said that the “incessant” press releases that have emerged regarding the deceased’s private affairs are troubling.

He stated that this is particularly so because the matter is currently before a court of competent jurisdiction.

Speaking in an interview, the entertainment pundit stated that before the passing of Daddy Lumba, the public was not aware of certain things about his private life, but the public tussles from members of his family have, however, brought a lot of those things into the public eye. “I sympathise with the people behind the press releases. I am not in their shoes, so, I can’t really tell what’s going on with them. Both their mental faculties I can not predict,” he said.

“But the fact is the matter is in court, and the releases must be directed to the judge. So, why are you showing it to me? What will the general public use that information for? Because once the case is in court, if the evidence you have is relevant to the case in court, take it there.”

Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo

He added that, inasmuch as people are going through stuff, if the paperwork is supposed to be for the judge, then it must be directed there.
