The management of Heath Goldfield, the operators of the Prestea-Bogoso Gold Mine, has confirmed the unfortunate loss of three lives in an incident involving illegal miners, locally known as “galamseyers,” who had infiltrated the company’s concession.

Heath Goldfields in its official press statement, updated the public and industry stakeholders on this unfortunate incident involving a group of these illegal miners who according to the company, secretly  infiltrated and were trapped within an inactive area of its underground workings on the Prestea concession.

“Preliminary reports indicate that these individuals used unauthorized routes to access a restricted area of the Mine, leading to the tragic loss of 3 lives,” Heath Goldfield revealed.

This devastating incident has once again shone a spotlight on the persistent challenge of illegal mining activities in the country’s mining sector.

Heath Goldfield, a reputable mining company with operations in the Prestea-Bogoso region, has issued a statement detailing the incident and their ongoing response.

The company mourns with the affected families and the Prestea community, acknowledging the pain and grief associated with the loss of life, regardless of the circumstances.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the entire Prestea community during this difficult period. Every loss of life, regardless of circumstance, is painful and we stand with the affected families in grief and sympathy.”
