Ghana, Spain Deepen Ties With Scholarship Opportunities For Women

The Ambassador for Spain in Ghana, His Excellency Angel Lossada Torres-Quevedo, has engaged the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection on the availability of scholarship opportunities for Ghanian women.

This forms part of the 2026-2027 Learn Africa Program, an initiative that seeks to award women in Africa with scholarship opportunities for postgraduate studies, thereby empowering them to be agents of positive change in their home countries.

The scholarship is offered to women who have already completed tertiary education and seek to further their education by pursuing their master’s and PhD as well as research opportunities.

 The program is spearheaded by the Women for Africa Foundation. The Learn for Africa scholarship scheme is designed to equip African women with the skills and knowledge needed to steer developments in their home country.

African women who benefit from this scholarship undergo educational training in top-tier universities in Spain. The Learn Africa Programme is mainly designed for women professionals t to continue their education in Spanish Universities without financial hindrances.

The initiative empowers women by strengthening their capacity through educational and other training programs, which will enhance their abilities to take on more leadership roles across the African continent.

The Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Angel Lossada Torres-Quevedo, explained that the program offers a hundred scholarships across the African continent to women. He noted that the program’s focus is on master’s degrees, doctoral programs, research, and specialized postgraduate programs.

He asserted that the program is rolled out for persons who have already completed their undergraduate studies and would like to progress in their academic and professional careers. African women who wish to benefit from these scholarships must have a tertiary education as a requirement in order to be considered.

According to Ambassador Lossada, the program goes beyond academic achievement; it also aims to strengthen the capabilities of women in order to make significant contributions to their countries of origin.

Women who undergo training under this program are expected to return to their home countries and make significant contributions towards its development.

His Excellency Lossada asserted that this will enhance human capital and ultimately improve development in the beneficiaries’ countries of origin.

In response, the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, expressed her gratitude towards the initiative. She reiterated her appreciation to Mr. Lossada for extending such an opportunity to Ghana.

This offers a timely intervention in providing valuable opportunities to women. As such, women are advised to take advantage of this offer.

She noted that the program aligns with the Ministry’s core mandate, which is to empower women through education and capacity building.

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, considers this a timely intervention and a contribution towards efforts aimed at empowering women in Ghana.

Hon. Dr. Naa Momo Lartey assured the Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Lossada, of making sure the opportunity will be made known and accessible to qualified and interested women, particularly those in the professional environment.

She stated that women will be encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity.

Women From Disadvantaged Backgrounds to Benefit From The Scholarship

She also announced the inclusion of women from less privileged backgrounds into the scheme. The Minister communicated to the Spanish Ambassador to Ghana that efforts will be made towards the inclusion of women from less privileged backgrounds in the program.

Women who fall within this category and are willing and qualified will equally benefit from the initiative. This reflects broader efforts at ensuring equity and inclusion at all levels.

Beneficiaries of this initiative are expected to undergo a holistic training ranging from academic to leadership and personal development, which will benefit their home countries upon their return.

The Learn Africa Program seeks to serve as a vital avenue for advancing academic growth, professional as well as international cooperation, while empowering women across the African continent.
