President John Dramani Mahama, at the commissioning of the Krobo Divisional Police Headquarters, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security across Ghana, emphasizing that peace and stability remain essential foundations for national development.

Addressing a gathering of security officials, traditional leaders, and residents, President Mahama described the event as more than the unveiling of a new facility. According to him, it represents renewed hope, enhanced institutional capacity, and a decisive step toward building a safer and more resilient nation.

“Today’s event is not merely the commissioning of a building,” he stated. “It is a commissioning of renewed hope, strengthened institutional capacity, and a bold step forward in our collective quest to build a secure and resilient nation.”

The President stressed that without security, no meaningful development can occur. He noted that economic growth, quality education, and sustainable livelihoods all depend on a stable and peaceful environment. For this reason, he said, his government continues to prioritize investments in the security sector, particularly in the Ghana Police Service.

Describing the police as the frontline institution in maintaining law and order, President Mahama highlighted ongoing efforts to equip officers with modern tools and logistics needed to combat crime effectively. He pointed to recent successes in addressing armed robbery nationwide as evidence that such investments are yielding results.

Ghana Police Service To Receive Forty New Armored Vehicles

The President revealed that his administration had already procured 40 armored vehicles for the police service shortly after taking office. These vehicles, he explained, have played a significant role in enhancing the operational capabilities of officers, particularly in responding to violent crimes across the country.

“I’m happy to note, as the Inspector-General of Police mentioned, that as soon as we came into office last year, we placed an order for 40 armored vehicles for the Ghana Police Service. They have played a very big role in countering armed robbery across the length and breadth of Ghana.”

In a further boost to security logistics, President Mahama announced that an additional 40 armored vehicles are expected to be delivered soon. This move, he said, underscores his administration’s determination to ensure that security personnel are adequately equipped to face modern threats.

The President also addressed concerns about the type of equipment previously provided to officers, noting that lighter vehicles such as pickup trucks were insufficient for confronting heavily armed criminals. He emphasized that when officers are deployed to protect citizens, they must be given the appropriate tools to carry out their duties safely and effectively.

“When you send our officers to protect you and fight violent people, you have to provide them with the right instruments and tools,” he remarked. “We must match their courage with the resources they need.”

The commissioning of the Krobo Divisional Police Headquarters is expected to improve policing in the area by providing a modern facility for officers and enhancing coordination in crime prevention efforts. Local leaders welcomed the development, expressing optimism that it will contribute to reduced crime rates and increased public confidence in law enforcement.

The increasing rates of crime in Ghana necessitate the need for facilities to be implemented that will help combat crime. The security issues are of prime interest to the President of Ghana, and as such the need for commissioning this security measure.

President Mahama concluded his address by reiterating his administration’s broader vision of a secure Ghana, where citizens can live and work without fear. He called for continued collaboration between the police and communities, noting that security is a shared responsibility.

He opined that, for security to be effective, there is a need for the community to cooperate with the officials of the Ghana Police Service and ensure they are law-abiding.

As Ghana continues to navigate evolving security challenges, the government’s focus on strengthening the police service and investing in critical infrastructure signals a sustained effort to safeguard lives and property while fostering national development.
