In a revelation during a recent interview, award-winning Ghanaian singer and songwriter Dennis Nana Dwamena, popularly known as KiDi, has officially announced his departure from Lynx Entertainment, the label that propelled him to stardom over the past 10 years.
The announcement marks the end of an era for one of Ghana’s most consistent hitmakers and signals a new independent chapter in his career.
KiDi, celebrated for infectious hits like “Odo,” “Say Cheese,” and collaborations with heavyweights such as Davido and Mayorkun, rose through the ranks at Lynx Entertainment under the guidance of CEO Richie Mensah.

The label, once home to talents including Kuami Eugene and MzVee, played a pivotal role in shaping Ghana’s contemporary Afrobeats and highlife sound.
However, in the interview, KiDi confirmed he is no longer with the imprint, stating simply, “I’m no longer with Lynx Entertainment.”
The move comes after a period of transition for Lynx. Kuami Eugene had already exited the label earlier, leaving KiDi as one of its flagship acts.
Industry watchers had long speculated about KiDi’s future amid growing buzz around his solo ventures and international ambitions.
His exit appears amicable, with the artist previously expressing gratitude for the foundation Lynx provided, even as he navigated creative differences early in his tenure.
KiDi’s journey at Lynx was not without hurdles. In previous candid interviews, including one on the Talk No Dey Cook Rice podcast, he revealed that the label nearly dropped him shortly after signing due to his stubborn commitment to his R&B-infused style.
The label reportedly pushed him toward other directions, but KiDi’s persistence paid off, leading to chart-topping success and multiple awards.
His departure now positions him as a fully independent artist with strong backing.
Reports indicate he has launched his own imprint, Black Boy Joy, with his recent releases licensed globally to EncoreRecordings.
This hybrid model allows him greater creative control while leveraging established distribution networks.
New Music Era
Coinciding with the news, KiDi dropped his first single of 2026, “Babylon”, under the new setup.
The track, produced by Ugly and Tough with mixing by Gigz Beatz, blends emotional Afrobeats grooves with Ghanaian highlife elements.
Fans and critics have praised its heartfelt lyrics touching on heartbreak, growth, and resilience perhaps mirroring his career evolution.
The song is already generating significant streams and airplay, further cementing KiDi’s status as a hitmaker who thrives regardless of label affiliation.
He has also teased an upcoming album titled Where Do We Go From Here, building anticipation for what lies ahead.
Industry Reactions
The Ghanaian music industry has reacted with a mix of surprise and excitement.
Supporters hail the move as a bold step toward artistic freedom, especially as more African artists seek independence or strategic partnerships in the streaming era.
Critics of the traditional label model point to cases where former Lynx acts continued successful careers post-departure.
Richie Mensah and Lynx Entertainment have yet to issue an official statement on KiDi’s exit.
The label, known for nurturing talent, now faces the challenge of rebuilding its roster following multiple high-profile departures.
KiDi, meanwhile, remains focused on the music. In past interviews, he emphasized his drive for global impact and connecting with fans worldwide.

His loyal fanbase, often called “KiDi Army,” has flooded social media with messages of support, trending hashtags like #KiDiIndependent and #Babylon.
At this stage in his career, KiDi’s exit represents evolution rather than reinvention.
With a proven track record of delivering hits and a growing international profile, the singer-songwriter is well-positioned for the next level.
Whether through tours, further collaborations, or expanding his Black Boy Joy imprint, expectations are high.
As the dust settles on this transition, one thing is clear: KiDi’s voice -smooth, emotive, and distinctly Ghanaian will continue to resonate far beyond any label walls. The industry watches closely as one of its brightest stars charts a new course.
