England captain Harry Kane has played down concerns that the hot weather conditions in the United States could negatively affect his team’s performances at the upcoming FIFA World Cup, insisting that proper hydration and preparation will help players cope with the conditions.

The USA is one of the three host nations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Mexico and Canada, with several venues expected to experience high temperatures during the tournament.

Kane scored the only goal as the Three Lions laboured to a 1-0 victory over New Zealand in a pre-World Cup preparatory match aimed at testing their readiness for the Mundial, which gets underway in just four days’ time.

Following the match, pundits and observers pointed to the intense heat in the United States as a major reason behind England’s below-par display.

However, the Bayern Munich striker was quick to dismiss suggestions that the weather could become a major obstacle for England and some other participating nations.

Drinks Breaks Will Help

Addressing concerns over the heat, Kane stressed that tournament organizers have measures in place to help players cope with demanding weather conditions.“The hot weather? The drinks breaks help. A lot of people are talking about the heat but I don’t think it’s going to be as big a factor as what some people say,” Kane said when asked about the weather.

The England skipper believes players will quickly adapt to the conditions and that the issue has been exaggerated in some quarters ahead of the tournament.

Kane also pointed out that professional footballers are accustomed to competing in different weather conditions including warmer weather and have undergone sufficient preparation to acclimatize before the World Cup.“Me personally and a few of the boys who have been training for a while in it felt fine today. We’re all athletes, we’re all professionals and have played in warm weather conditions before,” he added.

His comments will come as a reassurance to England supporters, with concerns growing over the impact of weather conditions on player performance and recovery throughout the competition.

The Three Lions have been drawn into Group L alongside Croatia, Ghana and Panama. England will open their tournament against Croatia on June 17 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington before facing the Black Stars of Ghana six days later at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.

Their final group-stage encounter will be against Panama on June 27 as they seek to secure qualification for the knockout rounds.

England Seek First Title since 1966

England enter the tournament with high expectations as they continue their pursuit of a first major international trophy since winning the World Cup in 1966.

The Three Lions have come close in recent years, reaching the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup and finishing runners-up at UEFA Euro 2020 and Euro 2024.

With the 2026 World Cup marking the first edition of the tournament to be jointly hosted by three countries, England will be hoping that their long wait for international glory finally comes to an end on football’s biggest stage.
