Chef Abena Amoakoaa Sintim-Aboagye, popularly known as Chef Abbys, has emerged as a shining beacon in Africa’s burgeoning culinary tourism landscape after being named one of the 100 Most Impactful People in Tourism & Hospitality for 2026 (TOHO100) by Ranks Africa Magazine.

This prestigious recognition celebrates her transformative work in elevating African cuisine from local traditions to global stages, blending heritage with innovation to drive cultural exchange and economic growth through food. At just 27 years old, the Kumasi-born chef has built an impressive career that spans content creation, live culinary experiences, and advocacy, positioning her as a key figure in redefining how the world perceives and engages with African flavors.

Born on July 6, 1999, in Kumasi, Ghana’s Ashanti Region, Chef Abbys grew up immersed in the rich tapestry of Ghanaian home cooking. Her early life in a culture where food serves as both sustenance and storytelling laid the foundation for her passion.

Initially trained in engineering, she made a bold career pivot to pursue her culinary dreams full-time, a decision that has since paid dividends in influence and impact.

Her journey gained momentum through short-form video content on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, where she demystifies complex African recipes for global audiences. Signature dishes and techniques such as vibrant Ghanaian stews, innovative twists on jollof rice, or street food classics like kelewele have gone viral, amassing millions of views.

What sets Chef Abbys apart is her storytelling approach; each video not only teaches a recipe but weaves in cultural context, history, and personal anecdotes that humanize African culinary traditions.

This digital prowess has translated into real-world experiences. She has conducted successful food tours, including a notable Ghana Heritage Month tour that celebrated indigenous ingredients and techniques. Building on that success, she expanded to London, bringing authentic Ghanaian flavors to international palates and collaborating with local creators.

These initiatives highlight her commitment to culinary tourism, creating immersive experiences that boost local economies and foster cross-cultural understanding.

Chef Abbys’ influence extends beyond the kitchen. She has cooked for high-profile figures, including the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and popular Nigerian influencer Enioluwa. Collaborations with global personalities, such as iShowSpeed, have further amplified African cuisine’s visibility.

Her work emphasizes sustainability, the use of local produce, and the preservation of traditional knowledge in an era of globalization.

The TOHO100 accolade from Ranks Africa underscores her contributions to hospitality and tourism. Ranks Africa, a platform dedicated to spotlighting impactful African brands and personalities, launched the fifth edition of TOHO100 to recognize leaders driving the continent’s tourism sector forward.

In an interview reflection on her path, Chef Abbys has spoken about the challenges of early content creation, from low initial views to the demands of consistency. Yet her resilience shines through. “When I started, sometimes I would stress and create content that got small views, but I never shook, I still pushed with confidence and consistency,” she shared in a BBC Pidgin feature.

This mindset has propelled her to win awards, including Africa’s Most Innovative Influencer at the 2025 PIA Awards, beating competitors from Nigeria and Uganda.

Her philanthropy adds depth to her profile. Through various initiatives, Chef Abbys supports culinary education and empowers aspiring chefs, particularly women and youth in Ghana and across Africa. She advocates for the professionalization of the culinary arts, encouraging investment in training programs that can turn local talent into global ambassadors.

Public Reaction

Experts in the tourism industry note that culinary experiences represent one of the fastest-growing segments in African travel. Travelers increasingly seek authentic, immersive activities, and chefs like Abbys are at the forefront. By transforming traditional recipes into modern dining experiences whether through pop-up events, workshops, or media appearances she bridges the gap between nostalgia and contemporary appeal.

This not only preserves heritage but also creates jobs in hospitality, agriculture, and related sectors.

The recognition comes at a pivotal time for African tourism. Post-pandemic recovery has seen a renewed focus on intra-African travel and cultural diplomacy. Destinations are leveraging food as a soft power tool, and personalities like Chef Abbys exemplify this strategy.

Her presence at international stages, including Cannes Lions, demonstrates how individual creators can elevate national and continental brands.

Looking ahead, Chef Abbys shows no signs of slowing down. Plans include further international tours, potential cookbooks, and expanded digital platforms. She continues to inspire a new generation of culinary professionals who view food not just as sustenance but as a vehicle for economic empowerment and cultural pride.
