The District Chief Executive for North Dayi, Honourable Ernest Adevor, has dismissed claims that the Vakpo Wusuta road project has been abandoned, explaining that the contractor has returned to site to continue work on the two road projects under the same contract. He attributed the earlier delays to heavy rains and the technical demands of constructing the roads.
The projects cover the road from the Anfoega Post Office through Anfoega Agortime to Wadamaxe and the Vakpo through Wusuta to Avatime road. According to the DCE, the contractor is currently working on drainage structures along the routes as construction progresses.

Honourable Adevor explained that both roads were awarded as a single lot to one contractor. As a result, the contractor has had to manage work across the two locations while dealing with difficult weather conditions that affected construction activities.
“Let me state clearly that the project has not been abandoned. The contractor is on site and the works are ongoing, with the two roads being handled under the same project.”
Honourable Ernest Adevor,
The North Dayi DCE further disclosed that the contractor has been given an end of year deadline for completing both roads. He said the timeline is part of the schedule provided by the project engineers and remained the expected completion period.
Attention has also turned to the concerns of motorists and residents who have endured difficult journeys along the Vakpo-Wusuta stretch. The road serves farming communities and plays an important role in transporting agricultural produce to market centres.
Honourable Adevor indicated that the return of the contractor to site had provided some relief to residents who had been waiting for visible progress. He added that the ongoing drainage works formed part of the technical process required to prepare the road for further construction.
The DCE’s explanation comes as residents continue to monitor activity on the road, particularly after months of limited visible work. With the contractor now active on site, the local authority expects the project to gather momentum towards the stated completion deadline.
Drainage Works Advance As Vakpo Wusuta Route Receives Renewed Interest
The DCE explained that the Vakpo-Wusuta road is an unengineered road which required preparatory work before the construction of gutters and culverts. The contractor levelled the road and applied gravel to create a suitable base for the drainage structures.
According to Honourable Adevor, the construction sequence has created confusion among some community members who expected the drainage works to begin immediately. He added that the contractor’s explanation showed that the road needs to be properly shaped before the gutters could be constructed.

The Wadamaxe section has since recorded significant progress in the drainage works. The DCE disclosed that the U gutters on that stretch were almost 90 per cent complete while the construction of culverts remained a key task ahead.
The ongoing drainage work is expected to improve the movement of water away from the road and create better conditions for the next stage of construction. Once the culverts and related structures are completed, the contractor is expected to continue with further work on the road surface.
On the question of the project’s exact percentage of completion, the DCE exercised caution and explained that he would need confirmation from the consultant and the contractor before providing a specific figure. He nevertheless expressed confidence in the contractor’s ability to meet the end of year deadline.
The road works have attracted attention because of the importance of the route to communities involved in farming and local commerce. Farmers rely on the road to transport produce while residents use it to connect with surrounding communities and market centres.
The project also covers the Anfoega Post Office to Anfoega Agortime through Wadamaxe route, which is being handled by the same contractor. The arrangement has required the contractor to divide operations between different sections while maintaining progress across the wider project.
Heavy rainfall earlier in the construction period added another challenge to the work schedule. With the weather conditions improving and construction machinery now active on site, the local authority expects the pace of work to increase.
