Aspiring National Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Miracles Aboagye has argued that his participation in the party’s planned demonstration is driven by the need to defend free speech and democratic rights. He explained that the protest is aimed at raising discussions about citizens’ ability to express themselves without fear of intimidation.
Mr Aboagye disclosed that he personally feels unsafe because of the current political environment and the way some individuals face legal challenges after expressing their views. He clarified that his worry is linked to the possibility of his outspoken nature creating difficulties for him as a political communicator.
The Aspiring Communications Officer revealed that his decision to speak publicly comes from his belief that democratic freedoms must be protected for every citizen. He noted that political power changes hands over time and actions taken against opponents can create challenges for future administrations.

Furthermore, Mr Aboagye explained that the demonstration is not designed as an act of retaliation against any political group. He emphasised that the action is intended to highlight threats to free expression, political participation and equal treatment under the law.
Discussing the expected turnout for the protest, the NPP communicator intimated that many citizens joining the event share similar feelings about protecting democratic freedoms. He outlined that the gathering represents a call for institutions to safeguard the rights of people who hold different opinions.
Additionally, he referenced previous political periods in Ghana’s history and argued that no government remains in power permanently. From his perspective, political actors must consider how decisions taken today may influence democratic experiences in the future.
The NPP aspirant also addressed claims that the demonstration is aimed at targeting the current administration. He explained that the focus remains on opposing practices that he believes could weaken confidence in democratic institutions.
Analysing the issue of political speech, Mr Aboagye noted that citizens rely on their ability to criticise leaders and engage in public discussions. He argued that protecting this freedom strengthens accountability and encourages responsible governance.
Moreover, he outlined that his concerns about safety are personal but also connected to the experiences of other citizens who fear being punished for expressing their opinions. He maintained that the demonstration provides an avenue for people to demand stronger protection for democratic rights.
Protesters Raise Questions Over Bail Conditions, Galamsey And Accountability

He explained that the party’s planned demonstration seeks to highlight issues surrounding bail conditions, political fairness and the administration of justice.
Mr Aboagye questioned the use of high bail requirements for some accused persons, arguing that such conditions can create difficulties for citizens who are unable to meet them. He noted that the purpose of bail is to ensure an accused person appears before the court, making accessibility an important part of the justice process.
Discussing the issue, the NPP aspirant referenced cases where individuals have struggled to secure their freedom because of financial and procedural requirements. He argued that conditions placed on accused persons must consider the realities of ordinary citizens while preserving the authority of the courts.
“The law says that even though someone is accused of a crime, the person is entitled to bail so that he can appear and show up whenever he is needed.”

Furthermore, Mr Aboagye addressed allegations of selective justice and argued that legal institutions must apply the same standards across political divides. He explained that decisions affecting opposition figures, government supporters and ordinary citizens should be guided by fairness.
Additionally, he discussed the issue of illegal mining activities and rejected suggestions that the NPP’s position on Wontumi, weakens its political standing. He argued that accountability for galamsey should involve every person linked to the illegal activity.
Referencing comments from President John Dramani Mahama about members of his own party being involved in illegal mining, Mr Aboagye argued that the government must ensure enforcement measures apply consistently. He suggested that addressing galamsey requires a comprehensive approach that does not focus on selected individuals.
The NPP communicator also mentioned Akonta Mining and previous discussions surrounding illegal mining allegations. He explained that political parties must engage the issue through equal standards and national responsibility.
Moreover, Mr Aboagye outlined his ambition to become the party’s Communications Director, explaining that he wants to strengthen the NPP’s communication strategy ahead of future political contests. He disclosed that effective communication remains essential in presenting the party’s message to citizens.
From his analysis, the party requires a stronger communication structure capable of engaging the public on national issues. He argued that his experience and understanding of political messaging position him to contribute effectively to the party’s communication direction.
