The Leader for People’s National Party, Janet Asana Nabla has criticised the government’s approach to corruption investigations, arguing that the fight against graft must apply equally to all politicians. She explained that her party’s decision to join the New Patriotic Party’s demonstration is based on the need to protect democratic fairness and accountability.

Ms Nabla noted that a government in a democratic system carries the responsibility of treating all political parties fairly. She argued that corruption should not be linked to political identities because public resources belong to the citizens and require equal protection.

The PNP Leader further accused the government of applying selective standards in corruption cases involving members of different political groups. She referenced cases involving former officials and questioned why some individuals faced legal action while others received different forms of legal relief.

Discussing the planned demonstration, Ms Nabla alleged that opposition figures are facing tougher treatment in legal matters compared with persons connected to the governing party. She mentioned investigations involving alleged financial mismanagement and argued that the same approach should apply to every person accused of wrongdoing.

The PNP Leader also raised issues surrounding illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey, and called for a comprehensive approach to addressing the challenge. Referencing comments from President John Dramani Mahama about party members being involved in illegal mining activities, she questioned why enforcement measures have not been applied across all political groups.

Additionally, Ms Nabla addressed issues surrounding freedom of expression and the arrest of individuals accused of spreading misinformation. She argued that protecting democratic participation requires allowing citizens, politicians and media professionals to express their views within the limits of the law.

She further mentioned the arrests of media personalities and suggested that actions against public commentary could affect Ghana’s democratic environment. The PNP Leader urged authorities to strengthen democratic institutions through fairness and equal treatment.

Demonstration Support Expands As Opposition Parties Unite Against Selective Justice

The planned demonstration has attracted support from the People’s National Party, which has announced its intention to participate alongside the New Patriotic Party. The party explained that its involvement is linked to its position on accountability, governance and democratic principles.

Addressing questions about the party’s support base, Ms Nabla revealed that PNP structures exist across several regions of the country. She disclosed that regional, constituency and polling station executives are still active after sections of the party move with her leadership.

Furthermore, the PNP Leader dismissed claims that her participation in the demonstration is influenced by financial arrangements. She insisted that her political decisions are guided by personal conviction and the interests of citizens.

Ms Nabla also rejected suggestions that neither the New Patriotic Party nor the National Democratic Congress could influence her actions through financial incentives. She argued that her involvement was based on principles and her understanding of Ghana’s political environment.

In addition, she explained that political parties must earn public trust through their actions and commitment to democratic values. The PNP Leader highlighted the importance of political integrity as parties prepare for future electoral contests.

Consideration is also being given to the role of smaller political parties in national discussions, with Ms Nabla positioning PNP as an active participant in political conversations.
