The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) has recorded a sharp surge in trading activity, with investors exchanging more than 2.3 million shares in a session that delivered a major boost to both market volume and turnover.
At the close of trading, a total of 2,319,164 shares changed hands, representing a market value of GH¢4.45 million. The latest performance marks a significant improvement compared with the previous trading session on Wednesday, August 12, when measured by both volume and turnover.
According to the latest market data, trading volume jumped by an impressive 122%, while turnover improved by 40%, highlighting stronger investor participation and increased activity across several listed equities.
GSE Trading Activity Explodes
The strong trading session comes as investors continue to show interest in selected equities on the local bourse.
A total of 28 listed equities participated in trading, with seven stocks recording price gains while five stocks ended the session in negative territory.
The performance points to a relatively positive trading environment, with more gainers than losers recorded during the session.
The increased activity also suggests that investors are actively repositioning their portfolios as the GSE continues its remarkable performance in 2026.
The benchmark GSE Composite Index, which tracks the broader market, edged higher by 4.08 points, representing a marginal 0.03% increase, to close at 15,279.24 points.
Despite the modest daily increase, the index continues to post remarkable gains over longer periods.
The GSE-CI has gained 0.53% over the past week, 2.57% over the past four weeks, and an extraordinary 74.22% since the beginning of the year.
Digicut Leads Market Winners
Among the strongest performers was Digicut Production & Advertising, which emerged as the session’s biggest gainer.
The company’s share price jumped by 9.09% to close at GH¢0.12 per share, placing it firmly at the top of the day’s gainers.
Digicut was followed by Dannex Ayrton Starwin, whose share price advanced by 8.82%.
Intravenous Infusions also delivered a strong performance, recording a 7.5% increase, while SIC Insurance Company gained 3.71%.
The broad presence of gainers demonstrates that investor interest was not concentrated in only one equity, with several stocks recording significant price movements during the session.
Hords Suffers Sharpest Decline
While several companies enjoyed strong buying interest, others came under pressure.
Hords emerged as the biggest loser of the session, with its share price falling by 9.09% to close at GH¢0.60 per share.
The decline placed Hords at the bottom of the day’s performance table.
Kasapreko followed with a 4.5% decline, while Fan Milk dropped by 0.68%.
Ecobank Transnational Incorporated also recorded a marginal decline of 0.53%.
The mixed performance underscores the selective nature of investor activity on the exchange, with some stocks attracting strong buying interest while others experienced selling pressure.
Intravenous Infusions Dominates Trading
One of the biggest stories from the session was the extraordinary volume recorded by Intravenous Infusions.
The company accounted for the highest number of shares traded, with approximately 1.42 million shares changing hands.
That figure placed the company well ahead of other heavily traded equities and made it the dominant contributor to the day’s total market volume.
MTN Ghana followed with 266,990 shares traded, while Kasapreko recorded 142,992 shares.
Dannex Ayrton Starwin completed the leading group with 100,169 shares traded.
The concentration of trading in a handful of equities shows how individual stocks can significantly influence overall market activity on the GSE.
Financial Stocks Maintain Strong Performance
The financial sector also maintained its positive momentum, with the GSE Financial Stocks Index (GSE-FSI) rising by 0.04% to close at 8,120.62 points.
The index has gained 1.06% over the past week, although it remains down 0.74% over the past four weeks.
On a year-to-date basis, however, the GSE-FSI has delivered an impressive 74.74% gain.
The performance reflects the broader strength of Ghanaian equities this year and comes amid renewed investor attention toward listed companies.
Market Capitalisation Reaches GH¢288.8bn
The total market capitalization of the Ghana Stock Exchange currently stands at approximately GH¢288.8 billion, equivalent to about US$26 billion.
The substantial market value highlights the growing importance of the exchange within Ghana’s financial system.
With the benchmark index up more than 74% since the beginning of the year, investors who entered the market earlier in 2026 have seen significant gains across several equities.
The latest surge in trading volume and turnover could further strengthen confidence in the local equities market if the trend continues.
Investors Watch GSE’s Next Move
The latest trading session has added another positive chapter to what has been a remarkable year for the Ghana Stock Exchange.
With trading volume jumping 122%, turnover rising 40%, and the GSE Composite Index maintaining its upward trajectory, attention will now turn to whether investor activity can remain elevated in subsequent sessions.
The strong performance of individual stocks such as Digicut, Dannex Ayrton Starwin and Intravenous Infusions also demonstrates the opportunities and volatility currently present on the local bourse.
As the GSE continues to record substantial year-to-date gains, investors are likely to closely monitor corporate results, economic developments, interest rates and broader market conditions for signals about the next phase of the rally.
