Ghanaian music star Black Sherif has officially confirmed his next major release, an EP titled Sun Sherif, set to arrive as his first project of 2026.

The announcement, which circulated widely on social media on August 18, followed an exclusive listening session held in London the same day, where the artist performed new material for a select audience and left fans eager for more.

Born Mohammed Ismail Sherif on January 9, 2002, in Konongo in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, Black Sherif, also known as Blacko or Iron Boy has emerged as one of Africa’s most distinctive voices in contemporary music. His style fuses Ghanaian highlife, Afrobeats, hip-hop, reggae, and elements of UK drill into a raw, emotionally charged sound delivered in a mix of English, Twi, and Pidgin.

He first gained widespread attention in 2021 with tracks such as “First Sermon” and “Second Sermon,” the latter featuring a high-profile remix with Burna Boy. His breakthrough single “Kwaku the Traveller” in 2022 topped charts in Ghana and Nigeria, dominated Shazam searches, and helped propel his debut album The Villain I Never Was to critical and commercial success.

In 2025 he released the album Iron Boy, which further cemented his status with reflective, hard-hitting tracks that balanced vulnerability and resilience. He has since continued to expand his international reach, including a collaboration with Nigerian superstar Davido on “Amazing Grace” from Davido’s album Oriadé, as well as recent singles such as “Pop Star” and “Swagga.”

Black Sherif has also earned multiple accolades at the Ghana Music Awards, including Artist of the Year recognition, and has headlined major festivals and sold-out shows across Africa, Europe, and North America.

The London listening session on August 18 marked a significant moment in the lead-up to Sun Sherif. Attendees and social media clips showed the artist performing unreleased material, including a track called “Expresso,” which is expected to appear on the EP. Videos circulating online captured energetic performances and moments of connection with the crowd, highlighting both polished new songs and the raw energy that has defined his live shows.

Promotional posts described the project as “out soon,” generating immediate buzz among fans who have been anticipating his next body of work after the Iron Boy era.

The title Sun Sherif appears to continue a thematic thread visible in recent activity. Earlier in 2026, Black Sherif referenced “SunRise” and “Sun is coming” in posts and tour promotions, including dates in New York and other cities. The imagery of light and renewal contrasts with the heavier, more introspective tones of some earlier work, suggesting a possible evolution in mood and sound while retaining the storytelling that has become his signature.

No official tracklist, exact release date, or featured artists have been confirmed yet, but the listening session has already given fans a taste of what is coming.

Black Sherif’s career trajectory reflects both rapid ascent and deliberate craftsmanship. Raised largely by extended family after his parents worked overseas, he has spoken about early struggles, self-doubt, and the determination that drove him from freestyling and independent releases to international stages.

His music often draws on personal experience-street life, ambition, loss, and perseverance delivered with a distinctive vocal style that can shift from melodic singing to sharp, rhythmic delivery.

That authenticity has helped him connect with audiences far beyond Ghana, positioning him as a key figure in the broader African music wave that continues to influence global charts and streaming platforms.

The timing of the Sun Sherif announcement comes amid a busy period. Black Sherif has maintained a steady output of singles and features while performing internationally, including recent appearances that kept his profile high.

The exclusive UK session underscores a strategy of building anticipation through intimate experiences before a full commercial rollout, a approach that has served many artists well in the streaming era.

Public Reaction

Fans who attended or followed the event online described the new music as energetic and forward-looking, with some noting it felt like a natural next step after Iron Boy.

As details emerge, industry observers will be watching how Sun Sherif performs commercially and critically. Black Sherif has already demonstrated an ability to top regional charts, generate viral moments, and sustain long-term interest.

An EP format allows for a focused statement rather than a full-length album, potentially serving as a bridge to larger projects later in the year or beyond. Collaborations remain a possibility given his history of working with major African artists, though nothing has been confirmed.

For Ghanaian music and the wider Afrobeats and highlife-influenced scenes, Black Sherif’s continued momentum is significant. He represents a generation of artists who blend local roots with global production values and storytelling that resonates across borders.

The excitement surrounding Sun Sherif reflects both his established fan base and the broader appetite for authentic African voices in popular music.

While an exact release window has not been announced beyond “out soon,” the combination of the London performances, the clear project title, and the social media rollout suggests the wait will not be long.

In the meantime, clips from the listening session continue to circulate, keeping the conversation alive. Black Sherif has once again positioned himself at the center of attention, inviting listeners to prepare for whatever the sun brings next.

With a growing catalog that spans introspective ballads, street anthems, and cross-border collaborations, the artist enters this new chapter with proven commercial strength and artistic credibility.

Sun Sherif is poised to add another layer to a career that has already rewritten expectations for Ghanaian talent on the global stage. Fans and industry watchers alike will be counting down until the EP officially drops.
