Tottenham Hotspur have completed a major deadline-day reshuffle, signing Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk from Chelsea on a season-long loan while allowing Kevin Danso and Pape Matar Sarr to leave the club on temporary deals.

The arrival of Mudryk gives head coach Roberto De Zerbi the opportunity to work with a player he previously coached at Shakhtar Donetsk.

The 25-year-old winger becomes the latest addition to Tottenham’s attacking options as De Zerbi continues to reshape his squad. The deal reportedly includes a £75 million purchase option for Spurs at the end of the loan spell.

Mudryk will wear the number 27 shirt for Spurs this season.

Mudryk has endured a difficult period since joining Chelsea from Shakhtar in January 2023. He made his Blues debut against Liverpool at Anfield and went on to make 73 appearances for the club, registering 21 goal involvements.

However, his progress was interrupted after he was suspended following a positive test for the banned substance meldonium.

He had not played competitive football since November 2024 before being cleared to return in July 2026. He subsequently featured for Chelsea during their pre-season campaign, including against Juventus.

The winger is now hoping to revive his career in north London, where he will reunite with De Zerbi, who played an important role in his development at Shakhtar.

Mudryk was named Shakhtar’s Player of the Year in 2021 and 2022 and was also voted Ukraine’s Footballer of the Year in 2022.

Mudryk Delighted to Reunites with De Zerbi

Mudryk said he was delighted to join Tottenham and eager to begin working with De Zerbi again. “I’m a player who brings speed and creativity, and I want to help in both the offensive and defensive areas. I want to make the fans excited,” he said.

De Zerbi also expressed confidence in the winger’s ability to make an impact, particularly because of his pace and one-v-one qualities. “Having worked with Misha earlier in his career, I know exactly what he can bring to our team,” the Tottenham head coach said.

Mudryk arrives with 28 senior international caps and three goals for Ukraine. He also played a role in his country’s qualification for Euro 2024, scoring the decisive goal in the play-off against Iceland.

While his ability is not in question, the major challenge will be restoring his match sharpness after such a prolonged absence from competitive football. Tottenham will be hoping the reunion with De Zerbi can help unlock the form that made Mudryk one of Europe’s most highly rated young wingers at Shakhtar.

Danso And Sarr Head For New Challenges

Alongside Mudryk’s arrival, Tottenham have confirmed the departures of defender Kevin Danso and midfielder Pape Matar Sarr.

Danso has joined Sunderland for the remainder of the 2026/27 campaign. His loan agreement contains an obligation for Sunderland to make the move permanent next summer if performance-related conditions are met.

Reports put the potential permanent fee at around £22.5 million to £25 million, depending on the terms reported.

The Austria international initially joined Tottenham from RC Lens on loan in February 2025 before making the transfer permanent. He leaves after 52 appearances for Spurs, scoring once. The 27-year-old was also part of Austria’s squad at the 2026 World Cup.

Sarr, meanwhile, has completed a season-long loan move to Juventus. The agreement includes a conditional obligation for the Serie A club to make the transfer permanent next summer.

Juventus have confirmed the initial loan fee at €2.5 million, with the permanent transfer becoming mandatory if the agreed conditions are met.

The 23-year-old Senegal international joined Tottenham from Metz in 2021 and eventually established himself as an important member of the squad. He made 141 appearances for Spurs and was part of the team that won the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League.

Sarr also provided the assist for Brennan Johnson’s winning goal against Manchester United in the Europa League final in Bilbao, one of the most significant moments in Tottenham’s recent history.

The departures of Danso and Sarr underline the scale of De Zerbi’s squad overhaul, while Mudryk’s arrival represents a calculated gamble on a talented player seeking a fresh start.

For Tottenham, the success of the deadline-day business may ultimately depend on whether the Ukrainian can rediscover his best form and whether the outgoing deals provide the squad with greater balance.
