Los Angeles rapper AZ Chike is building serious momentum ahead of his major-label debut album, and the latest buzz has the West Coast hip-hop scene buzzing.

Studio photos of Chike and Kendrick Lamar surfaced this weekend, and fans are already treating them as confirmation of a collaboration on the project titled No Rest for the Wicked.

The album is scheduled for release on September 18 through Warner Records. According to tracklists circulating on Genius, one of the songs carries the same name as the album and lists Kendrick as a featured artist.

While neither artist has issued a formal statement, the images of the two sitting together in a studio have been enough to send social media into overdrive.

Chike, born Damaria Kayshawn Walker, has been grinding in the L.A. underground for more than a decade. He first caught wider attention in 2017 when “Burn Rubber Again” took off on SoundCloud. Since then he has released a string of projects that kept him respected on the local circuit, but 2024 changed the scale of his career.

A feature on ScHoolboy Q’s Blue Lips album and an appearance on Kendrick’s GNX track “peekaboo” put him in front of a national audience. He also performed at Kendrick’s Juneteenth “Pop Out” show and later joined him onstage during the Grand National Tour stop in Los Angeles.

That connection clearly continued. Earlier this year Chike signed with Warner and began rolling out singles for the new album. “Packed Up,” produced by Hit-Boy, arrived in June. At the end of August he released “Look Like My Mama” with Tyler, the Creator, complete with a playful video that recreated scenes from several movies.

Both tracks showed Chike leaning into the aggressive, high-energy style that first made him a local favorite while proving he could hold his own next to bigger names.

The presence of Kendrick on the title track would mark another full-circle moment. After giving Chike a high-profile platform on GNX, the Compton native appears ready to return the favor on the younger rapper’s debut under a major label.

Fans have noted that previous studio teases from Chike ; such as time spent with Tyler eventually led to official releases, so the optimism feels grounded.

No Rest for the Wicked is being positioned as more than a collection of street records. Chike has talked about balancing the hard-hitting material that built his reputation with more personal storytelling. The album also reportedly includes work with Pharrell Williams, adding another layer of star power to the tracklist.

For Chike, the timing feels right. After years of independent releases and side features, he is stepping into the spotlight with one of the most anticipated West Coast projects of the year. The Kendrick collaboration, if confirmed, would give the album an immediate spotlight that few debuts receive.

AZ Chike is hitting the road this fall for his first-ever solo headlining run. The “No Rest for the Wicked” tour, presented by Monster Energy Outbreak, launches October 5 in Houston at White Oak Music Hall and wraps November 9 in Seattle.

The trek includes stops in Dallas, Atlanta, New York, Chicago, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and several other cities. It comes just weeks after the September 18 release of his Warner Records debut album of the same name.
