MobileMoney Fintech LTD (MMFL), operator of MTN MoMo, has launched a new app exclusive rewards campaign dubbed MoMo Hour, designed to reward customers for carrying out everyday transactions on the MoMo App.

The three-month campaign, which runs from September 8 to December 18, 2026, will see customers win instant rewards including e-cash, data bundles of up to 1GB, 20 minutes of voice airtime, discounted transaction fees and other benefits for completing qualifying transactions during designated one-hour reward windows.

In addition to the instant rewards, customers will also stand the chance to compete for monthly cash prizes, including a top prize of GH¢5,000.

According to MMFL, MoMo Hour forms part of a broader strategic drive to increase adoption and active use of the MoMo App as a one-stop platform for financial and lifestyle services.

How the ‘MoMo Hour’ Works

Under the campaign mechanics, MMFL will announce reward windows in advance through official customer alerts on the MoMo App and other verified channels.

Customers who complete a qualifying transaction on the MoMo App during a live one-hour window will be eligible for the reward attached to that window, subject to the campaign’s terms and conditions.

Qualifying transactions will vary per reward window and will be communicated at the time of announcement. These may include: Airtime and data purchases person-to-person (P2P) transfers MoMoPay and other merchant payments. Bill payments for television, electricity, water and school fees Payments for insurance, savings, investments, pensions and loan repayments.

MMFL explained that each live window will have its own qualifying transaction and corresponding reward, encouraging customers to stay alert and transact within the stipulated hour.

“Customers just need to download or update the MoMo App, watch out for official MoMo Hour alerts, and complete the qualifying transaction during the announced window.”

MMFL

Commenting on the campaign, the Head of Marketing at MobileMoney Fintech LTD, Alfred Hammond, said MoMo Hour combines immediate customer value with the company’s long term ambition to widen access to digital financial services.

“The MoMo App is more than a channel for transferring money. It gives customers secure, convenient access to payments, savings, credit, insurance, pensions and investments in one place. More than one million customers already use advanced financial services through :170# but have not yet opened the app. MoMo Hour gives them a compelling reason to start: transact during a reward window, discover what else the app can do and earn rewards along the way.”

Mr. Hammond

Mr. Hammond said the campaign is designed to help customers experience a more intuitive way to manage everyday transactions while accessing a wider range of financial services in one place.

He encouraged both new and existing users to download or update the MoMo App from the Google Play Store, Apple App Store, Palm Store and Huawei AppGallery, and to explore its full suite of services beyond transfers.

The Driving of App Adoption

Industry data shows that while mobile money penetration in Ghana remains high, with over 70% of adults using MoMo, app adoption still lags behind USSD usage.

Many customers who use advanced services such as savings, insurance and investments via 170# are yet to migrate to the app, which offers enhanced security, convenience, transaction history and self service options.

MMFL said MoMo Hour is a deliberate intervention to bridge that gap by offering tangible, time-bound incentives for customers to try and stay on the app.

The MoMo App currently offers services including money transfers, airtime and data purchases, bill and merchant payments, savings, investments, insurance, pensions, loans, bank services, QR payments, loyalty rewards and self-service options.

The company believes that increased app usage will not only improve customer experience but also support Ghana’s digital financial inclusion agenda by bringing more people into the formal financial ecosystem.

MMFL More Rewards Coming on ‘MoMo Hour’

MMFL disclosed that MoMo Hour is the first in a series of initiatives lined up to deepen MoMo App adoption and engagement in the last quarter of the year.

Planned activities under the campaign include Hourly Streaks to reward repeat participants who consistently transact during reward windows, a MoMoFest takeover which will integrate MoMo Hour into this year’s MoMoFest celebrations, and a Mega Hour grand finale in December to climax the campaign.

The company said details of these activations will be announced in due course through its official channels. The campaign is being run in partnership with the Gaming Commission of Ghana and in line with regulatory requirements.

MMFL Customer Advisory

MMFL has urged customers to be vigilant and rely only on official MoMo alerts for information on MoMo Hour reward windows. Customers should not share their MoMo PINs, and should not trust messages from unofficial numbers or social media accounts claiming to be part of the campaign.

Customers who need assistance can contact MTN Ghana’s customer care on 100 or interact with support via the MoMo App.

MoMo Hour is now live. Customers are encouraged to update their MoMo App, turn on notifications, and watch out for the next reward hour.
