Amazon Prime Video has set a premiere date for its new Barbershop television series, confirming that all eight episodes will arrive on February 10, 2027.
The comedy follows Travis “Trav” Walker, played by Fowler, as he returns to Chicago with the hope of honoring his grandfather’s legacy at the iconic Calvin’s barbershop. The shop, however, has changed and so has the city. Trav must navigate a new crew of barbers and a loyal customer base while trying to find his place in a community that still gathers for sharp fades, sharper opinions, and lively conversation.
At its core, Calvin’s remains what it has always been: a hub where neighborhood life unfolds in real time.
The series is positioned as a direct continuation of the Barbershop film universe that began with the 2002 original starring Ice Cube, followed by sequels in 2004 and 2016. Those three films collectively grossed nearly $200 million worldwide and helped establish the barbershop as a vivid setting for comedy rooted in Black community life, economic pressures, and everyday debate.

An earlier television adaptation aired briefly on Showtime with Omar Gooding in the lead role, lasting only one season. This new version aims to refresh the world for a streaming audience while preserving the franchise’s signature mix of humor and heart.
Cast of The Series
Fowler leads a strong ensemble. Series regulars include Brett Gray, Punkie Johnson, Roy Wood Jr., E.J. Bonilla, Bresha Webb, Bokeem Woodbine, Tiana Okoye, and Langston Kerman. Guest stars announced so far feature a deep bench of comedians and actors, among them Zack Fox, Ego Nwodim, Diallo Riddle, Ziwe, Tituss Burgess, Comedian CP, Devon Walker, and Belmont Cameli.
The mix of established comedy voices and rising talent suggests the series will lean into the rapid-fire banter that defined the films.
Behind the camera, the project carries strong franchise credentials. Marshall Todd, who co-wrote the original 2002 film, is showrunning alongside Max Searle. The pair executive produce with a sizable team that includes Kevin Hart, Bryan Smiley, Mike Stein, and Tiffany Brown for Hartbeat; Bradley Gardner for Busy B Entertainment; Cameron Burnett and Autumn Bailey-Ford for Prominent Productions; George L. Tillman and Robert Teitel for State Street Pictures; Fowler himself; and Oz Rodriguez, who also directs. Amazon MGM Studios is producing the series.
The involvement of Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat company is notable. Hart has increasingly expanded his producing footprint across film and television, often championing projects that blend comedy with culturally specific settings.
Pairing that infrastructure with Todd’s direct connection to the original film gives the series both commercial muscle and creative continuity.
For Fowler, the role marks another high-profile lead after standout work in projects such as Ricky Stanicky. Known for his sharp comedic timing and dramatic range, he steps into a character who must balance personal ambition with the weight of family legacy-an emotional through-line that could give the series more depth than a pure workplace sitcom.
The February 10, 2027, drop of all eight episodes follows Amazon’s preferred full-season release model, allowing viewers to binge the entire first season at once. That approach has become standard for many of the streamer’s original comedies and could help the show build momentum quickly through word of mouth and social media conversation.
The Barbershop films succeeded in large part because they treated the barbershop as more than a business. It functioned as a town square, a place where politics, relationships, money, and gossip collided under the same roof. Early descriptions of the series suggest the television version will pursue the same formula: keep the chairs busy, the debates lively, and the community front and center.

As the first images circulate and the premiere date locks in, anticipation is building among fans of the original movies and viewers looking for a comedy that feels grounded in everyday Black life. Calvin’s barbershop is once again open for business, this time on the biggest streaming stage yet. All eight episodes of Barbershop will be available exclusively on Amazon Prime Video beginning February 10, 2027.
