Standard Chartered Bank Ghana PLC has strengthened its position as a rewarding investment on the Ghana Stock Exchange after declaring a total dividend payout of GH¢673.48 million for the 2025 financial year, supported by strong profitability, rising earnings and a resilient balance sheet.

The dividend payout, approved at the bank’s 2025 Annual General Meeting, highlights its ability to generate returns for shareholders while maintaining the financial strength required to support future growth.

The bank disclosed its financial performance and strategic priorities during its 2026 Facts Behind the Figures stakeholder engagement session at the Ghana Stock Exchange. The event brought together investors, stockbrokers, fund managers, regulators and media representatives to examine the bank’s performance and prospects.

Beyond the substantial dividend payment, the bank reported a return on equity of 28 per cent in 2025, while earnings per share increased to GH¢5.97 from GH¢5.31 in 2024. These results underscore the bank’s commitment to maintaining profitability and creating sustainable value for its shareholders.

GH¢673.48 Million Dividend Highlights Shareholder Returns

The dividend payout stands out as one of the major highlights of Standard Chartered Bank Ghana’s 2025 financial performance, demonstrating its capacity to reward investors while sustaining its operations in a competitive banking environment.

The bank’s ability to deliver these returns is particularly significant in a market where investors closely monitor profitability, capital strength and the consistency of dividend payments when making investment decisions.

Its 28 per cent return on equity further reflects its ability to generate profits relative to shareholders’ funds. Meanwhile, the increase in earnings per share from GH¢5.31 in 2024 to GH¢5.97 in 2025 points to an improvement in the earnings attributable to each ordinary share.

These indicators provide shareholders with important measures of the bank’s financial performance and its capacity to generate value over time.

However, maintaining such returns will depend on the bank’s ability to preserve profitability, manage risks effectively and identify new income opportunities as economic and market conditions evolve.

Half-Year Profit Climbs 10% to GH¢320 Million

Standard Chartered Bank Ghana has also demonstrated resilience in the first half of 2026, recording total revenue of GH¢798 million and a 10 per cent increase in profit after tax to GH¢320 million.

The performance indicates that the bank has maintained positive earnings momentum beyond its strong 2025 results.

Profit growth remains an important indicator for investors because it reflects the bank’s ability to convert revenue into earnings after accounting for operating expenses, taxes and other relevant costs.

The latest figures also suggest that the bank is seeking to balance profitability with the operational discipline required to sustain its performance over the longer term.

Albert Larweh Asante, Chief Financial Officer of Standard Chartered Bank Ghana PLC, attributed the results to the strength of the bank’s balance sheet and its approach to managing financial risks and allocating capital.

“Our resilient performance reflects the strength of our balance sheet and our disciplined approach to risk management and capital allocation. We remain focused on driving sustainable income growth, maintaining operational efficiency and delivering long-term value for our shareholders.”

His remarks highlight the importance of maintaining financial discipline while pursuing opportunities to increase income and improve efficiency.

Strong Balance Sheet Supports Growth Ambitions

The bank’s balance sheet expanded by 15 per cent in 2025 while remaining compliant with all regulatory and capital requirements.

This expansion provides an important foundation for its growth strategy, particularly as it seeks to strengthen its position in corporate banking, financial institutions and wealth management.

Standard Chartered Bank Ghana operates within an international banking framework that incorporates global standards and a robust regulatory environment. According to the bank, this structure influences its approach to risk management and capital allocation, contributing to a measured approach to business expansion in recent years.

While a cautious approach may limit exposure to certain risks, it also places greater emphasis on identifying opportunities that align with the bank’s capabilities and long-term objectives.

The challenge will be to translate its financial strength into sustained earnings growth while maintaining the discipline that has supported its recent performance.

Cross-Border Banking Becomes Central to Growth Strategy

Standard Chartered Bank Ghana is positioning its international network and cross-border capabilities as key advantages in its next phase of growth.

The strategy combines international banking services with wealth management expertise to connect clients to opportunities in global markets.

Xorse Godzi, Chief Executive of Standard Chartered Bank Ghana PLC, said the bank would continue to build on these strengths to accelerate growth and deliver sustainable shareholder value.

“We will continue to maximise our strongest competitive advantages while harnessing market opportunities to accelerate growth. As a super-connector bank, we will leverage our international network and cross-border capabilities to connect corporates, financial institutions and individuals to some of the world’s most dynamic and rapidly growing markets.”

The strategy could strengthen the bank’s appeal to businesses seeking international trade opportunities, financial institutions requiring cross-border services and individuals looking for wealth management solutions.

Its ability to execute this plan will depend on how effectively it converts its international reach into sustainable business opportunities and stronger financial returns.

GH¢4.6 Million Youth Investment Strengthens Social Impact

Beyond profits and dividends, Standard Chartered Bank Ghana is pursuing initiatives aimed at supporting inclusive growth and climate action.

In 2025, the bank invested GH¢4.6 million in youth empowerment through the Standard Chartered Foundation. The initiative focused on disadvantaged young people, particularly young women and persons with disabilities, by providing employability and entrepreneurship support.

The investment reflects an effort to extend the bank’s contribution beyond financial services by helping young people develop the skills and opportunities needed to participate in economic activity.

The bank also mobilised $30.5 million in climate finance for Ghana through a $200 million World Bank Clean Cooking Outcome Bond.

The initiative benefited 1.3 million people and contributed to reducing emissions by more than 1.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent. It also demonstrated the potential of carbon finance to support environmental objectives while delivering benefits to communities.

These initiatives complement the bank’s commercial activities by linking its operations to broader development priorities.

130 Years in Ghana as Bank Pursues Sustainable Value

Standard Chartered Bank Ghana is marking 130 years of uninterrupted operations in the country, reinforcing its long-standing presence in Ghana’s financial services industry.

Listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange since 1991, the bank continues to support businesses and individuals through its financial services, capital facilitation and involvement across different economic sectors.

Its latest financial results place shareholder returns, earnings growth and international connectivity at the centre of its immediate priorities.

The GH¢673.48 million dividend payout represents a significant reward for shareholders, while the first-half 2026 profit increase suggests that the bank has maintained its earnings momentum.

The next test will be whether Standard Chartered Bank Ghana can sustain this performance, expand its income streams and continue delivering attractive returns without compromising its balance sheet strength.

As the bank enters its next phase of growth, investors will be watching closely to see whether its financial resilience and international capabilities can translate into lasting shareholder value.
