The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed Julius Kwame Anthony as a Deputy Communications Director, following approval by the party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) at a meeting on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
The appointment, which takes immediate effect, is intended to strengthen the party’s communications machinery, improve public engagement and enhance its capacity to explain the policies, programmes and achievements of the NDC-led government under President John Dramani Mahama.
In a press release signed by the party’s General Secretary, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC expressed confidence that Anthony would bring dedication, professionalism and responsibility to the role as the party advances its communication objectives within the framework of the government’s Reset Agenda.
“He brings to the position a sound understanding of communication and its strategic application in advancing the Party’s objectives,”

NDC Seeks to Strengthen Communications Strategy
The party indicated that Anthony’s appointment reflects its commitment to improving how it communicates its vision and policy direction to the public.
According to the release, his understanding of communication and its strategic application is expected to reinforce the party’s engagement with citizens and help sustain the gains being made under Mahama’s leadership.

The NDC further expects Mr Anthony to work collaboratively with the Communications Directorate and other relevant party structures to ensure effective communication of its objectives.
The appointment comes as the governing party seeks to articulate its administration’s policies and programmes while deepening public understanding of its direction under the Reset Agenda.
The party has also formally notified media organisations and other relevant stakeholders of the appointment, requesting that they recognise Julius Anthony in the discharge of his official duties.
Anthony Brings Government Communication Experience
Mr Anthony currently serves as Press Secretary and Spokesperson for the Ministry for the Interior, representing the ministry on issues of national interest, including public safety, drug trafficking investigations and labour disputes.
His responsibilities in the ministry place him at the intersection of public communication and national security, where clear communication is important to informing the public about government actions and matters affecting public safety.
In addition to his communications role, Mr Anthony was appointed in 2025 to the board of Ghana Digital Centres Limited by the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George.
He also leads the Mr Anthony Saves Foundation, a social change organisation he established in March 2020. These roles form part of his professional background as he assumes a new responsibility within the NDC’s communications structure.

Former NUGS General Secretary Built Student Advocacy Profile
Before taking on responsibilities in government communication and party politics, Mr Anthony established a public profile through student leadership and advocacy. He served as General Secretary of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) from 2021 to 2022, a period during which he championed the #JusticeFor499 campaign.
The campaign advocated for the fair admission of 499 students who had passed the relevant examinations but were initially excluded from admission to the Ghana School of Law. The campaign became a prominent student advocacy effort, drawing attention to the affected applicants’ demand for access to legal education.
Mr Anthony’s involvement in the campaign forms a notable part of his record in student representation, where he advocated for the interests of students affected by admission decisions.
His transition from student leadership to government communication and an executive role in the NDC’s communications structure marks another stage in his public service career.
Julius Anthony graduated with First-Class Honours from the University of Ghana School of Law in July 2025, earning a Bachelor of Laws degree. Before completing his legal education, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration and Chinese from the University of Ghana, where he studied between 2016 and 2021.
His academic background combines legal training with studies in public administration and Chinese, alongside his experience in student leadership, public communication and organisational management.
The combination of these experiences provides the background against which the NDC has appointed him to help communicate its political objectives and government policies.
NDC Names Official Party Spokespersons
In announcing the appointment, the NDC confirmed that Mr Anthony would join Godwin Ako Gunn and Kakra Essamuah as official voices and contact persons for matters concerning the party.
The release called on print, electronic and digital media organisations, as well as other relevant stakeholders, to take note of the appointment and accord Anthony the necessary recognition in carrying out his duties.

The party’s Functional Executive Committee congratulated him and wished him success as he assumes the new responsibility in service to the party and the Ghanaian people.
The appointment takes effect immediately, placing Mr Julius Anthony within the NDC’s communications leadership as it seeks to communicate its vision, explain its policy direction and sustain public engagement under the Mahama administration.
The party expects him to work with the Communications Directorate and relevant structures to advance its communications agenda and strengthen its engagement with the public.
