GCB Bank Unveils GH¢5m Collateral-Free Loans for Ghanaian Businesses

GCB Bank has unveiled a fresh financing push aimed at easing one of the biggest challenges facing Ghanaian businesses, offering eligible entrepreneurs access to loans of up to GH¢5 million without conventional collateral under selected financing arrangements.

The initiative, which combines business financing, advisory support and digital education, formed a major part of the bank’s nationwide Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME) Caravan Clinic when it arrived in Tema on November 3, 2026.

Held at the bank’s Tema Branch under the theme “MSME Unlocked: Powering Ghanaian Businesses for Sustainable Growth”, the engagement brought entrepreneurs closer to financing opportunities and practical business support designed to help them overcome operational difficulties and pursue expansion.

At a time when access to affordable financing remains a major concern for smaller enterprises, GCB Bank is positioning its products as alternative funding channels for businesses that may struggle to satisfy conventional lending requirements.

GH¢5 Million Financing Window Without Collateral

One of the biggest attractions of the Tema engagement was the bank’s contract financing facility, which allows eligible businesses with secured contracts to access advances of up to GH¢5 million without collateral or financial statements.

Gabriel Siaw, Head of SME Banking at GCB Bank, explained that the facility was designed to support businesses that secure contracts but lack the immediate financial resources to execute them.

The arrangement could prove particularly useful to contractors and suppliers who win business opportunities but face difficulties raising the working capital required to mobilise workers, purchase materials and complete projects before receiving payment.

Mr Siaw also highlighted the bank’s Unsecured SME Business facility, which provides eligible customers with access to financing of up to GH¢1 million without collateral.

Unlike traditional lending arrangements that depend heavily on physical assets, the facility places emphasis on the customer’s business transaction activities through their GCB accounts.

“One of the products that we have is what we call the Unsecured SME Business, where customers can access up to one million Ghana cedis. All we need is for the customer to transfer business through the account activity. We don’t need collateral, and we don’t need financial statements,” he said.

The approach provides another financing avenue for active businesses that generate regular transactions but may not own valuable assets to secure conventional loans.

Invoice Discounting Offers Relief to Cash-Strapped Businesses

Beyond the GH¢5 million contract financing and GH¢1 million unsecured business facility, GCB Bank is also targeting cash flow difficulties through invoice discounting.

Delayed payments have remained a significant operational headache for businesses that supply goods, execute contracts or provide services to institutions but must wait weeks or months before receiving their money.

Such delays can leave otherwise viable businesses struggling to pay workers, suppliers and other operating expenses.

GCB Bank’s invoice discounting facility seeks to address this problem by allowing businesses to present outstanding invoices and receive part of the money owed to them while the bank waits for payment from the buyer.

Mr Siaw explained the arrangement, stating:

“For a customer who has already performed on a contract but is waiting for payment from the awarding agency, two weeks or six months, bring the invoice to us. The bank is available to discount and give you part of the money whilst we wait for the payment from the buyer.”

Mr Siaw

The bank also offers vehicle financing for customers seeking to acquire vehicles for personal or business purposes, with the vehicle serving as collateral.

GCB Takes Artificial Intelligence to Entrepreneurs

While financing dominated much of the discussion, the Tema Caravan Clinic went beyond lending products.

Entrepreneurs also received practical business management education and exposure to artificial intelligence (AI), reflecting the growing importance of technology in improving business productivity.

According to Mr Siaw, the initiative is designed to introduce customers to emerging technologies while helping them understand how to manage their businesses more effectively.

“Today is the clinic activity, where we bring our customers together, take them through how to manage their businesses, take them through AI activities and other stuff, and also sell our products to them, the products that we have on offer.”

Mr Siaw

The inclusion of AI discussions is particularly significant for smaller enterprises looking for ways to improve administration, marketing, customer communication and business planning without necessarily employing large teams.

Nationwide Caravan Clinic Reaches Tema

The Tema engagement forms part of GCB Bank’s broader nationwide effort to deepen its relationship with MSMEs.

Mr Siaw disclosed that the initiative had already covered Tamale, Kumasi and Accra before arriving in Tema, with the activities forming part of a two-week engagement that began the previous week and was scheduled to continue through Friday.

Beyond showcasing its financial products, the bank also used the engagement to gather feedback from customers about their experiences and expectations.

“One of the major rationales behind having this is to ensure that we also take feedback. Apart from giving them or telling them what we have on offer, we’re also taking feedback.

“Today, I am very happy. Whether good or bad, we have heard a lot from our customers, and that is going to help us improve on our processes and improve on our offerings to them.”

Mr Siaw

Established in 1953, GCB Bank continues to position itself as a key financial partner to businesses across Ghana.

Its latest MSME engagement highlights an approach that combines financing, technology and business education, offering entrepreneurs additional opportunities to strengthen their operations and pursue growth.

The availability of financing of up to GH¢5 million without conventional collateral under its contract financing arrangement could attract considerable interest from businesses seeking to turn awarded contracts into completed projects.

However, access remains subject to the bank’s eligibility and assessment requirements.

As the Caravan Clinic extends its reach across commercial centres, GCB Bank is seeking to bring financial solutions closer to the entrepreneurs whose activities contribute to Ghana’s business and economic growth.
