Shakira’s Super Bowl Outfits, Lyrics Coming To Grammy Museum

Shakira’s two outfits worn during a Super Bowl halftime performance, her handwritten lyrics, and her heavily crystalized electric guitar are among the items that will be on display for a museum exhibit in Los Angeles.

The Grammy Museum announced Thursday that the multi-Grammy winner will have her first exhibit opening on March 4, 2023.

The exhibit called “Shakira: The Grammy Museum Experience” will feature 40 artifacts from her personal archive in the museum’s permanent Latin music gallery.

The museum exhibit will explore Shakira’s musical evolution, from her origin as a Latin performer in Colombia to reaching global superstardom as a multi-genre performer, who spans several genres including bachata, rock, Bhangra, and reggaetón.

Shakira in a statement said;

“It’s an honor to have the journey of my career displayed at the Grammy Museum.

“These pieces are a testament to so many indelible moments that I cherish, and I’m so happy to be able to relive these memories with those who have and continue to support me as an artist”.

Shakira’s electric guitar that’s covered in 70,000 black crystals and acoustic guitar used for songwriting will be displayed.

Other items include her outfits from her El Dorado tour in 2018 and the leaf-covered bikini she wore on the “Oral Fixation, Vol. 2” album in 2005.

Jasen Emmons, the chief curator and vice president of curatorial affairs at the Grammy Museum said;

Shakira, the powerful rocker singer-songwriter from Colombia who is known for her heart-wrenching ballads and pop anthems didn’t really collaborate with any other well-known artists in the first decade of her career.

It wasn’t until 2005 when she released ‘Fijación Oral’, Vol. 1 and ‘Oral Fixation’, Vol. 2, that she turned heads with superstar collaborations, the Alejandro Sanz-assisted “La Tortura” and “Hips Don’t Lie” with Wyclef Jean.

The only other artists she featured in those two albums were Gustavo Cerati and Carlos Santana.

Since, Shakira has been more open to collaborations, teaming up with an elite list of partners that includes Maluma, Prince Royce, Maná, and Black Eyed Peas, for songs that are also more experimental sonically embracing urban-leaning beats and incorporating elements of reggaetón and bachata in her songs.

Her latest collaboration is with the Argentinian hitmaker Bizarrap on “BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 53,” where she slammed her unfaithful ex with slick bars about how a top-notch loba shouldn’t settle for any tips like him, against an electrifying electro-pop backdrop.

“Vol. 53” follows “Monotonía” with Ozuna, a quintessential no-holds-barred duet. Powered by a bachata tune, Shakira also doesn’t hold back.

She is as honest as one can get singing about heartbreak and the end of what seemed to be a perfect relationship.

The two tracks follow Shakira’s very public breakup with her longtime partner, and father of her two children, soccer star Gerard Piqué.
