Legendary Ghanaian gospel singer Yaw Sarpong, has launched a peace song which features A- list Ghanaian artists.

The launch which took place at the Think Media Expert office in Accra on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, was supposed to be officially launched at 9 am on Friday 12 November 2020, but was postponed in light of the demise of the former president of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings whose untimely death shook the nation.

Titled, ‘All-Stars Peace Song’, it was released earlier this year towards a peaceful 2020 election. According to Yaw Sarpong, the song was made to educate the citizens on how to avoid getting into any form of violence before, during, and after elections.

Mr. Sarpong’s passion for peaceful elections and a united Ghana has largely been informed by the scars of the war he experienced in Liberia.

According to him, he has witnessed some gory scene in Liberia and as a result, he would not want to see that happen in Ghana.

“We thank God for bringing all these big musicians and heads from MUSIGA here together. I am a gospel musician and I have stayed in Liberia before and so I have seen a lot before. Sometimes, some people casually just say when its election what will happen will happen, just because they haven’t seen anything before. If anything should happen in this country and you haven’t eaten for one week then you would understand if that statement should come to pass or not. Some of us have seen terrible things and so the peace of the country matters to us”.

Recounting the inspiration for the song, he intimated that, on his journey home from Liberia, God charged him with the mandate of releasing a peace song.

“So in the year 2000 when President Kuffour was aspiring to be a president, there was a lot of tension in the election because our former President who has left us President Rawlings was leaving his sit, then I had arrived from Liberia to Ghana and God placed on my heart that with the gift he has given me and with what I saw, I will not sit to let it happen ever because the things that happened in Liberia for those there, they know how war is like”.

He further pleaded with Ghanaians to safeguard and not destroy the peace that we have now because once lost, it would be difficult to regain it.
