Further Investigation Into Ablekuma Bullion Van Robbery Must Be Conducted- Wa West MP

Peter Lanchene Toobu, a member of parliament’s Defense and Interior Committee, has stated that thorough inquiry into the bullion van robbery at Ablekuma Fanmilk in the Greater Accra Region, which resulted in the death of a police officer, should be conducted.

If the CCTV footage is properly analyzed, he thinks it will reveal further details about the robbery.

In a daylight robbery attempt on a bullion vehicle at Ablekuma Fanmilk in Accra on Thursday, a police officer was slain. When gunshots were heard, people fled the area; they did not return until the armed robbers had left. According to his name badge, the policeman’s only name was found to be Amoah.

According to Mr. Toobu, the Wa West MP, there is more to the probe than first appears.

“The fact that the vehicle reversed and then met the arrival of the robbers means that they had been following them for some time. If you look at the way the robber shot the officer dead, he looks like a properly trained person. The driver in the van was not hurt, which suggests that it may have been an inside job, and I am confident that the investigation will unravel this daylight robbery.

“Under normal circumstances, when a bullion van stops, the police officer is supposed to get out of the van before anyone who is supposed to bring the cash to the truck gets close to the van. The cash has to be escorted from the security room to the truck. But in this scenario, you will realize that the cash was already out. So after shooting the police officer, they had the opportunity to pick up the cash from wherever it was.”

Gov’t Criticized On Its Negligence To Acquire Proper Bullion Vans

The government was harshly condemned by Emmanuel Kotin, the Executive Director of the African Centre for Security and Counter Terrorism, for failing to prioritize the security of lives by purchasing the essential bullion trucks for banking institutions.

According to the African Centre for Security and Counter Terrorism, the absence of authorized bullion vehicles in the banking industry may have contributed to the vulnerability that resulted in the officer’s tragic death.

Concerned about the security measures’ shortfall, Mr. Kotin encouraged the Ghana Police Service to act right away.

He stressed how crucial it is to hold banking organizations responsible for the mode of transportation it chooses when it comes to moving money.

He emphasized the need to put the safety and wellbeing of law enforcement officers participating in these operations as a top priority and urged the Ghana Police Service to take this into consideration, while providing its services to banks that continue to use illegal bullion vehicles.

“I don’t think anybody in his rightful thinking will have the idea of attacking them that is why I am calling on police personnel to desist sitting in such bullion vans. I know that the operators of such bullion vans are able to get around the rules and the Bank of Ghana because of political connections and political expediency.

“How long are we going to use political connections to bypass good policies and laws we create? what society are we creating? It is about time we do the right thing.”

Emmanuel Kotin
