A former deputy minister of communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has revealed that Ghana’s economy is in shambles.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, a former Deputy Minister of Information.

The former Deputy Information Minister, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, has conceded defeated in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese Constituency seat he was vying for on the ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), defining his loss by a margin of 176 votes.

Despite his loss, he went further to congratulate his main contender, Elvis Morris Donkor, in a post on Facebook.

“It was so close yet so far for me. I lost by 176 votes. Congratulations Elvis Morris Donkor and better luck to me next time. I am also deeply grateful to all of you out there who supported my bid in diverse ways”.

The polls saw 51,768 ballots cast with 847 rejected. While the NPP’s Donkor polled 25,048 votes representing 49.19 per cent, Ofosu Kwakye amassed 24, 872 representing 48.84 per cent.

Ghana Union Movement (GUM)’s representative got 1,001 votes representing 1.97 per cent.

The Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese seat was one of the contests the NDC notably said had gone the way of their candidate.

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has disclosed that, the party has taken over regions which hitherto were the National Democratic Congress (NDC) hotspots.

Reacting to an earlier press conference by the NDC, he stated that the ruling government currently controls three out of the five regions of the north, including the Savannah region.

“The NPP won 63 seats above what the NDC had in 2016 as such it is surprising that the NDC is insisting on flipped seats. But they do not mention the many seats they have flopped”.

Mr. Boadu, gave a breakdown of seats snatched from the incumbent parliamentary candidates by the NDC.

“The NDC has lost Damongo, they have lost Daboya, and Salaga North in the Savannah region. The NPP is now the majority party in John Mahama’s region, controlling four seats out of seven seats.

“The NDC also flopped in Lambussie, a seat we have won; that is in the Upper West Region. In the North East region, the NDC has also flopped, losing Yagaba Kubori to Mustapha Yussif. The NDC has flopped again in Yooyoo, losing the seat to Oscar Lawal of the NPP. The NDC also flopped in Chereponi losing the seat to Abdul Razak of the New Patriotic Party. In the Northern Region, the NDC has flopped to the point that like Savannah and North East, NPP now has majority seats in the Northern region.

“NDC has flopped and we have won Karaga for the first time, we have won Tatale, we have won Zabzugu, and we’ve won Zabzugu constituencies. We now control 3 regions out of the five regions in the north of the country.

“The NDC has also flopped in the Upper West Akim in the Eastern Region for the first time. The icing on the cake is the historic NDC flop in the Volta region. The New Patriotic Party is registering, for the first time a seat in the Volta Region in Hohoe constituency. And as we speak now Hon. Peter John Amewu is the MP-elect for Hohoe constituency,” he revealed.
