The Former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyerematen, has stated that the former General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong and National Chairman, Paul Afoko were unfairly removed from their leadership positions within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He noted that the removal of the officers from their various leadership positions in the New Patriotic Party run-up to the 2016 Elections was mainly due to sycophancy in the party’s internal politics at the time.

“Kwabena Agyapong and Paul Afoko were victims of sycophantic behaviour within the party,”

Alan Kyerematen

He claimed that people like Kwabena Agyapong and Paul Afoko were unjustly removed because of sycophancy and blind adherence to the leadership. He thinks the two people were removed without following proper procedures or having an opportunity to refute accusations.

Mr. Alan Kyerematen’s comments follow his own exit from the New Patriotic Party, which he explained was partially motivated by his desire for a more open and inclusive political environment. He underlined the necessity for the New Patriotic Party to respect divergent viewpoints and make sure that internal procedures are impartial and open.

The New Patriotic Party, he continued, must learn from its past errors and truly serve the people. He noted that Ghana needs a political party that values healthy debate and gives room for opposing viewpoints.

Kwabena Agyapong, a former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, was suspended in 2015 for misbehaviour together with Paul Afoko, the former National Chairman of the party, and Sammy Crabbe, a former National Vice Chairman.

According to the party Discipline Committee, Mr Kwabena Agyapong was found guilty of violating Article 3(d) of the party’s constitution, which requires members to uphold the party’s decisions.

He was also accused of engaging in “unilateral actions and activities without consultation with or seeking authorization from the NEC.”

Chairman Wontumi Orders For the Removal Of Items Associated With Alan

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Bernard Antwi Bosiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has issued a directive to all constituency chairpersons in the 47 constituencies to immediately take down any advertising materials affiliated to the Former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyerematen, from their party offices.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Bosiako stressed that Mr. Kyerematen’s promotional materials are no longer relevant inside the party offices as a result of his resignation in a memo dated September 25, 2023, addressed to all constituency chairpersons in the Ashanti Region.

“In view of Hon. Alan Kyerematen’s resignation from the party, all his posters, banners, flyers and paraphernalia at our party offices in all the constituencies must be removed with immediate effect. Once he has forfeited his membership, it is just right and fair that these items are removed from our offices”

Bernard Antwi Bosiako

Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, a former candidate for the New Patriotic Party’s Presidential Primaries, resigned from the party on September 25, 2023, and declared a four-point platform for his campaign to run as an independent for the presidency in the 2024 general elections.

In his speech, Mr Kyerematen, a Former Minister of Trade and Industry, promised to create and head a new MOVEMENT FOR CHANGE in Ghana to fulfil his aim of running as an independent candidate.

The brand logo for the MOVEMENT is the Monarch Butterfly, which politically symbolizes change and transformation, hope, and positivity. It also communicates strength, endurance, spirituality, and trust, which are key traits that he said he cherishes as a Political Leader.
