Veteran hip-life musician, Kwame Nsiah Apau popularly known as Okyeame Kwame, has also added his voice to the colossal volume of opinions that have been shared by entertainment critics and music fans in the last few days in the mainstream media and on social media.

The musician, who said he has never tried writing a song for any Gospel musician before, still believes that there is absolutely nothing wrong with any secular musician who does this.

“The Gospel means the word of God and even Jesus who is the standard, his critics called him a drunk and one filled with evil spirits. I do not believe that every secular musician in this world does not love God, so if you love God, you’re poor in spirit like myself and there’s an inspiration to write Gospel songs for Gospel musicians. I am not sure there’s anything wrong with that.”

It can be recalled that Kwami Eugene urged Christians to allow other secular artists to write songs for gospel musicians.

He revealed that Christians who chastize secular artists like himself who write songs for gospel artists are being unfair and are going against what the Bible instructs.

Kuami Eugene is of the view that given the quest for the Church to win more souls, secular artists who are blessed with very good songwriting skills should be encouraged to write more gospel songs.

“I think Christians should embark on a project to make artists like Kwabena Kwabena and Akwaboah write more gospel songs for our people. Maybe it will compel them to come out with a Gospel album,” he suggested.

Advising Polygamous Men

Okyeame Kwame, also nicknamed Rap Dacta, opined that a man who has more than one wife should also be ready to understand a partner who will cheat with another man.

The musician revealed that he will not mince words on his position on the subject of polygamy.

“If you are a man whether an Akan or a Muslim and you have the inclination or the decision to marry more than a wife, and have two girlfriends, let whoever you are marrying get that understanding before you get married. If the woman agrees to allow you to make such decisions, then you can go ahead to marry her because she has given you her word. But if these negotiations are not done and yet you have other women apart from her, then that’s a worry to the woman.”

The musician believes that most men are not able to tell women their true intentions before marriage, because they think if they do, the women will not marry them.

Also, the rapper asserted that words have spirits and the words one use can impact their relationships. In his view, dependence on a partner can lead to negative consequences in the case of betrayal.

Okyeame Kwame wonders why the act of sleeping with other people aside from one’s partner is tagged as cheating.

“As stupid as it sounds, our society has created a certain mindset that if your partner goes to sleep with another person, that is not you, your partner has cheated. How am I cheating on you? I am not using your body,” he quoted.

His comments led to massive backlash from netizens, with some questioning the motivation behind his statement. Others felt his words were taken out of context.

Okyeame Kwame clarified his stance, stating that he was encouraging the idea of being independent in a relationship rather than being overly attached.

“Every word has a spirit behind it so if you use words like ‘he has cheated on me,’ it means you are depending on the person and you will bear the consequences of the action the person takes. So if we are in a relationship, we need to learn to be parallel instead of being attached because if your girlfriend or wife goes to sleep with someone else, if you think about it, you weren’t the one who cheated…if you’re my wife and you cheat, how does that disgrace me? You have disgraced yourself. If we begin to look at life like that, it gets to the point where we separate ourselves from others.”

Okyeame Kwame

He argued that certain societal concepts like possession should be reconsidered. While he might say “my wife” in conversation, he emphasized that, in his mind, he viewed his spouse as an independent, thinking adult. Therefore, if she made a decision, he did not consider himself responsible for her actions.

“We need to look at some of the concepts in our society such as possession…I say “my wife” for the purposes of conversation but in my head, it is “a wife”. It is Okyeame Kwame‘s wife, however, I am not attached to what she does because she is a complete individual, a reasoning adult so if she decides to do something, I am not responsible for that,” he said.
