GCB Bank Donates Relief Items to 3 Tongu Districts Hit By Floods

GCB Bank PLC, the largest bank in Ghana in terms of total operating assets and share of industry deposits, has commiserated with victims of the devastating flooding situation which has displaced many people especially in the Volta Region.

The bank as part of its support system has donated some essential relief items to the victims of the three Tongu districts in the Volta Region at the North Tongu District Assembly Forecourt at Battor.

According to the Executive Head of Retail Banking of the Bank, Mr. John Adamah, who led the donations, it is part of the Bank’s commitment to provide people centered banking that GCB has demonstrated for the past 70 years of providing unrivalled financial solutions towards the socio-economic development of Ghana.

This, he said, will help to alleviate the sufferings of the inhabitants of the affected communities in the Tongu areas by the spillage of the Akosombo and Kpong Dams.

“As a bank we exist because of the people and so if the people are distressed then we cannot sit unconcerned whilst the people suffer. And the importance of this is that we want the communities within in which we operate and which include the Tongu communities to know that, the bank exists because of them. The bank thinks so deeply about them and in their distress, the bank is distressed as well and whatever the bank can do to alleviate their sufferings, the bank will do.”

Mr. John Adamah

Receiving the items on behalf of the three Tongu districts, thus; North, Central and the South Tongu, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for North Tongu Osborne Divine Fenu, applauded the Bank for the support, saying it is the first financial institution to donate.

The Items to Alleviate the Sufferings of the People

Osborne Divine Fenu noted that the items will go a long way in alleviating the sufferings of the people displaced noting that every donation counts for the displaced people as more is needed to resettle them after the water recedes.
