Internal Party Wrangling: NDC Leadership Chastised Over DMB

M.Cby M.C

Koku Anyidoho

Koku Anyidoho, previously serving as the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has raised concerns about the party’s leadership remaining silent on the election of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr. Anyidoho finds it peculiar that the NDC has not extended congratulations to the Vice President following his recent victory over the weekend.

Expressing his disappointment, he highlighted the customary practice of offering congratulations to political rivals as a demonstration of unity and commitment to democratic values in a series of tweets.

“Big shame! Almost 72 hours after the declaration of the NPP Presidential Primaries results, Asieduu-Nketiah can’t get his executives to issue a simple congratulatory statement. What is so difficult about this? Have we dropped our standards so low that we can’t do the needful? Sad!”

He raised concerns about the NDC’s apparent delay in addressing the outcome of the NPP’s presidential primaries, which resulted in Bawumia’s selection as the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 elections. His criticism was directed towards Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the NDC’s national chairman, whom he accused of neglecting his responsibility to guide the party in upholding established democratic practices.

“I say, Asiedu-Nketiah is leading the NDC into a pit of darkened despair; here is a typical example. How come the NDC has failed to officially congratulate the NPP on the successful election of its Flagbearer? Is it not a practice to give Solidarity Messages? I weep for my NDC.”

Koku Anyidoho

Following the election of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as flagbearer for the New patriotic party for the 2024 General Elections, most members of the NDC have expressed a similar view purporting to mean that the Vice President’s win was not resounding enough to win against John Mahama in the 2024 General Elections.

The NDC has held a general view that given the support of the government for the Vice President’s bid, he should have fared better in the race.

In the spirit of good sportsmanship in any kind of competition, courtesy might have demanded a congratulatory message from the opposition party to their lead contender in the 2024 General elections.

NPP Focused On 2024 General Elections

Meanwhile, the National Organizer of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, has said that the party’s focus is to fill all Parliamentary seats before the 2024 election.

“The next step is that, in the coming days, we will put together a schedule that will also oversee the conduct of the parliamentary primaries. We began with the orphan constituencies, where they have already submitted their forms. They are yet to go through the processes so that we can hold the elections for the orphan constituencies.”

“There were around 18 constituencies, I believe, that went uncontested, so the party organized acclamation processes for them. We have completed that phase. Now, we need to proceed with the remaining constituencies where we haven’t conducted the primaries, and then we will focus on the constituencies with sitting MPs.”

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared its shift in focus towards coordinating Parliamentary primaries for the 2024 election.

They have revealed plans to disclose the specific dates for primaries in orphan constituencies before the end of the year. Following the party’s recent election on Saturday, November 4th, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged as the chosen flagbearer for the 2024 polls, securing 61.43% of the total votes.

His closest competitor, Kennedy Agyapong, received 37.41% of the vote share, while the remaining candidates, Dr. Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai Nimo, garnered 0.75% and 0.41% of the votes respectively.
