The National Democratic Congress in the Ashanti Region has postponed its planned ’24Hour Economy Walk’ scheduled on Thursday 21st December 2023.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, December 20 2023, the Ashanti Regional Chairman for the opposition National Democratic Congress, Augustus Andrews Nana Kwesi indicated that the postponement is to make room for its members and the public to give full attention to the remaining District Level Elections that have been rescheduled by the Electoral Commission to be held on the same day.
According to Chairman Nana Kwasi, the leadership of the party in the Ashanti region would subsequently announce a new date for its planned ’24 Hour Economy Walk’ that would be held in the region to mobilize support for the party’s flagbearer Former President John Dramani Mahama ahead of the 2024 polls.
“The Ashanti Regional Chapter of the National Democratic Congress announces for the information of its members and the general public the postponement of its highly publicized 24Hour Economy Walk scheduled on Thursday 21st December 2023”.

NDC Claims Victory In District Level Elections
However, the Deputy Director of Special Duties of the National Democratic Congress, Comrade Brogya Gyenfi has called on members and supporters of the party to ignore any claims that a large number of persons affiliated to the ruling New Patriotic Party won the district level elections held on Tuesday, December 19 2023.
Reacting to the news, the former Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer for the opposition National Democratic Congress asserted that data the party has gathered thus far shows massive wins for its members and supporters who contested the district level elections across the country.
“For example, in Greater Accra, they were completely annihilated without mercy. They couldn’t make, even a 30% showing in that region. In the District of Krowor, no NPP affiliate won in the 12 EAs. It is 12/12 for us. Also in a difficult terrain like Anyaa Sowutuom, we move from 1 in 2019 to 8 currently while the NPP dwindled from 12 to 5”.

Touting the significant gains of the party in the district-level elections across the country, Mr Gyenfi further claimed that in the Walewale, the home district of the Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the National Democratic Congress won eighteen electoral areas as against the New Patriotic Party thirteen.
Moreover, Mr Gyenfi recounted that the supports for members and supporters of the National Democratic Congress in the district level elections were widely seen across all the electoral areas in the country.
“Massive showing in Ashanti and Eastern so far. Ahafo, Bono East, Northern, Bono, Western North, Oti, Central, Western, Western North, Upper West, Upper East, Volta, and North East – almost all the regions are displaying green”.

Meanwhile, the District Level Elections (DLEs) in some areas in the Ashanti and Eastern regions have been rescheduled by the Electoral Commission for Thursday, December 21, 2023.
A statement released by the Commission on Tuesday, December 19 2023 indicated that multiple technical difficulties had forced the rescheduling of the election.
