In a significant stride towards fostering the growth of women in agribusiness across Africa and the diaspora, Guzakuza proudly announced the successful graduation of 105 accomplished women from the 7th cohort of its flagship program, Ignite 2023.

The Ignite program, also recognized as the African Women in Agribusiness Fellowship, has emerged as a transformative force over the past seven years, catalyzing positive change in the agribusiness landscape.

It goes beyond conventional training, offering a comprehensive curriculum that includes expert-led modules, virtual workshops, coaching, networking opportunities, and engaging online and in-person activities.

The response to the Ignite 2023 application process was overwhelming, with 1,283 applications pouring in from 49 countries across Africa and the Diaspora.

This surge in interest underscores the critical need for platforms like Ignite, dedicated to nurturing and uplifting women in agribusiness. From this pool of applicants, 128 exceptional women were selected to embark on the Ignite 2023 journey.

The transformative journey unfolded in four distinct online training phases and a ten-day in-person session held in Accra, Ghana. These phases—Ignite Within, Ignite a Sis, Reach to Ignite, and Ignited to Ignite—culminated in the post-program extended phase, “Ready to Ignite,” each lasting a minimum of four weeks.

Structured into Field Groups, Business Stage Groups, Country Groups, and Tribes, the Ignite 2023 Training fostered collaborative learning. This unique structure enabled fellows to explore diverse agribusiness models and techniques crucial for building resilient ventures in Africa and beyond.

Reflecting on Seven Years of Inspiring Women Agripreneurs

Guzakuza, reflecting on seven years of inspiring women agripreneurs, reaffirms its commitment to driving positive change in the agribusiness landscape.

This year’s cohort received significant support from GIZ Ghana, along with contributions from the Roddenberry Foundation, GIZ Malawi, LevelUp USA, London Academy of Professional Training, and the Enterprise Risk Management Institute.

In reflecting on the numbers, the Ignite 2023 program witnessed 1,283 applications from 49 countries, with 600 candidates progressing through initial interviews. Out of these, 128 exceptional women were selected for Ignite 2023, and a ten-day in-person session was held in Accra, Ghana. The graduation ceremony celebrated the achievements of 105 graduates from 15 countries, representing 21 African nations.

As these accomplished women step into the next phase of their agribusiness journeys, the impact of Ignite 2023 resonates not just in the numbers but in the stories of empowerment and transformation.

The program has become a beacon, not only for providing knowledge and skills but also for fostering a supportive community of women agripreneurs. Beyond the graduation, the ripple effect of these empowered women is poised to create lasting change in the agricultural landscape, contributing to the development and sustainability of communities across Africa and beyond.

Guzakuza’s commitment to empowering women in agribusiness stands strong, and as these graduates carry the torch forward, they embody the spirit of resilience, innovation, and collaboration that will shape the future of agribusiness in the region.

The Ignite 2023 program stands as a testament to the resilience, dedication, and potential of women in agribusiness, furthering Guzakuza’s mission to create a sustainable and inclusive future for the agricultural sector across the continent.
