“Our sister is doing a cooking marathon, it is not easy to cook for five days. I am a cook and I know how to cook but I can’t do it. So I am happy for what our sister [Chef Faila] is doing so let’s appreciate her.

“I want everybody across the 16 regions of Ghana to be here to support her. As celebrities and everyone showed up in Accra, let’s do the same for our sister to encourage her to break the record.”

Even as hundreds and thousands crossed over into 2024 in churches and places of worship, others did so at places of entertainment or with friends and families.

Over in the north, Chef Failatu Abdul Razak started an attempt to break the current Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon.

She aims to clock a 120-hour cook-a-thon to break the current Guinness cook-a-thon record held by Irish chef Alan Fisher, who cooked for 119 hours and 57 minutes with the event hosted at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale.

The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia donated an amount of GH₵ 30,000 to the chef Abdul-Razak Failatu to assist in covering for the bills incurred during her attempt to break the Guinness World Record in a cook-a-thon

The Northern Regional Minister Shani Alhassan Saibu, donating on behalf of the Vice President, stated the chef’s decision to hold the cook-a-thon in the Tamale will put the region on the map and prove that the region has so much to offer in terms of hospitality.

“We are here on our behalf and behalf of his excellence the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and behalf of His excellence and flagbearer of my party Dr Mahamaudu Bawumia. He has asked us to donate on his behalf because duty has taken him out of the country,” he said.

“We are here to donate GH₵30,000 from the Vice president to aid her in her ambition to break the Guinness World Record,” he further stated.

Mr. Saibu revealed his goodwill message and wished Chef Failatu set a new record that would be very difficult for others to break.
