NDC General Secretary Denounces Alleged Claims of Divisive Remarks

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey

The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey has vehemently denied allegations of making divisive comments targeting the people of the Ashanti region.

In an official statement released on Friday January 19 2024, Mr Kwetey expressed regret over the dissemination of the video and subsequent misrepresentation of his remarks by several media outlets without proper fact-checking and further described it as ‘misleading claims’ being propagated by the New Patriotic Party.

The National Democratic Congress General Secretary further emphasized the need to set the record straight, stating that the quoted remarks accompanying the video were not born out of the fact.

“It is crucial to clarify that the quoted remarks accompanying the video are incorrect. During a retreat in January 2023, I emphasized to the people of the Volta region the significance of the NDC, urging them to perceive it not merely as a political party but as a unifying force, akin to a religion.

“To illustrate this, I referenced the substantial support the NPP receives from the Ashanti region drawing parallels with similar political loyalty observed in the United States for either the Democratic or Republican Party”.

Again, Mr Kwetey while accusing the New Patriotic Party of masterminding the allegations further described it as lacking truth and being calculated efforts by the ruling New Patriotic Party to exploit political circumstances.

He also accused the ruling New Patriotic Party of engaging in deliberate attempts to tarnish his reputation and manipulate public perception, suggesting a sense of desperation within the party.

According to the National Democratic Congress General Secretary, the New Patriotic Party has adopted a deliberate and divisive strategies which involve religion and tribal politics and thus described such approach adopted by the governing New Patriotic Party as a desperate attempt to win election in the country.

“Their reliance on deception and distortion suggest a belief that these tactics are the only means to cling to power. The influence of Dr Bawumia’s globally recognized penchant for lying and deception must be making the NP even worse”.

Moreover, the General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey expressed his confidence that despite the New Patriotic Party deliberate effort to create division in the country, he strongly believe that Ghanaians would stand united, regardless of tribe and religion.

Mr Kwetey expressed his unwavering commitment to building a united and prosperous Ghana and strongly asserted that the divisive tactics deployed by the New Patriotic would not succed in the country.

“I urge well-meaning Ghanaians to discern the desperation of the NPP and treat such publications with the disdain they deserve.

Meanwhile, a member of the opposition National Democratic Congress Communications Team, Mr. Agbesi Nutsu has stated that a video circulating on social media in which some leaders of the party are seen taking an oath was an exercise that took place ahead of the 2020 general elections.

“I was part of a team that trained some polling station agents at the party’s headquarters and had no idea about the oath after the training was done, but there was information that some of the trainees were going or had been compromised, so they were made to voluntarily swear.

“I swore an oath myself with a clear conscience as a leader and for the love I have for my party. However, there were about eight (8) agents who opted out and did not take part in the oath-taking. I do not have any regrets and will do it again if I have the opportunity”

Mr Agbesi Nutsu while dismissing claims that the incidence is a recent event strongly asserted that the exercise was done for the good and in the interest of the National Democratic Congress.
