A Private Legal Practitioner and Special Aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has accused President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party administration of lacking the willingness to fight against corruption in the country.

Reacting to news of the High Court ruling instructing the Office of the Special Prosecutor to return money ceased from Mrs Cecilia Abena Dapaah, Lawyer Mogtari argued that the government’s commitment to fighting corruption is now in question.

The Special Aide to former President John Dramani Mahama reminiscing about some instances of accusations of corruption against her boss, Mr Mahama during his presidency, further argued that those allegations were politically motivated, and which ultimately aimed at tarnishing Mr Mahama’s reputation to pave the way for then-candidate Nana Akufo-Addo.

According to Lawyer Mogtari, the Ford vehicle scandal and the bus branding scandal, particularly were used as leverage by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to portray the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as incompetent.

“We have been stating for years that John Mahama has been a victim of extreme prejudice and political propaganda led sadly by a man whose sole aim was to become president at all costs. This he could only achieve by destroying his predecessor, a good man, a very patriotic Ghanaian, Nana Akufo-Addo, in the past touted as his friend and a good colleague on the other side of the political divide in parliament”.

Again, the private legal practitioner posited that President Akufo-Addo administration has failed to prove any of the claims it leveled against Mr Mahama, however, recent evidence and event under the current administration has led many Ghanaians to believe that the current administration is corrupt.

Madam Joyce Bawah Mogtari also stated that the level of dishonesty and disregard for the citizen of Ghana under the ruling New Patriotic Party administration led by President Akufo-Addo is ‘unprecedented’ and ‘unimaginable’.

Bawah Mogatri Fires President Akufo-Addo For Failing To End ‘Galamsey’

Moreover, the former deputy Minister of Transport statement highlighted President Akufo-Addo’s promise to end illegal mining, known as galamsey, and pointed to a report by Professor Frimpong Boateng that allegedly implicates members of the president’s team in illegal mining activities.

She questioned President Akufo-Addo’s inaction and apparent lack of concern despite the damage the activities of illegal mining has done to the natural resources and water bodies of the country.

“That galamsey is perpetrated by members of the president’s team and government is confirmed, and it has been established that some NPP members have been using expensive mining equipment without authorisation, raping the state of its natural resources, and destroying our water bodies; whilst Akufo Addo looks on unconcerned.

“You may recall the regrettable will of the late Sir John, who left forest concessions, properties, and state lands to his family upon his passing. What is the current status of this matter? Why has the President yet to take action? We are eagerly waiting for the President’s response. Galamsey is still ongoing, causing damage to our water bodies”.

Commenting on the recent scandal involving former Minister of Sanitation under President Akufo-Adddo’s administration, Mrs Cecelia Abena Dapaah, Lawyer Mogtari claimed that the court ruling, ordering the return of hard currency and bank amounts to Mrs  Dapaah, raises questions about the government’s commitment to fighting corruption.

According to her, the ruling has truncated a prime opportunity for the government to prove itself in handling corruption cases.

Lawyer Joyce Bawah Mogtari concluded in her statement by asserting that the allegations of corruption against President Mahama during his first term were driven by malice, aiming to tarnish his character.

She thus urged all Ghanaians to be outraged at what she described as the mismanagement of the country and to join the fight for change to rescue the nation from what she described as a failed government.
