Dr. Bawumia Has Nothing to Offer the Creative Art Industry – Kojo Preko Danquah

Kojo Preko Danquah

The President of the Foundation of Concerned Arts Professionals (FOCAP), Mr. Kojo Preko Danquah has stated that the Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has lost trajectory regarding his vision for the Creative Arts industry.

Mr Kojo Preko Danquah made this statement in reaction to the Vice President’s vision as stated in his address during the launch of his Presidential bid on Wednesday 7th February 2024 at the University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA).

The President of the Foundation for Concerned Arts Professionals (FOCAP) stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia, has nothing to offer the Creative Art sector.

He claimed that the Vice President’s policy suggestions for the Creative Arts industry do not offer tangible solutions that are likely to result in the growth and development of the sector.

Consequently, Mr. Kojo Preko Danquah opined that the Vice President and his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in their seven years in government have lost focus with their vision regarding the Creative Art industry.

He claimed that their policies regarding arts and the arts business did nothing to produce the needed change in the sector and further stressed that these existing policies will not have any positive impact on the Creative Arts sector in the future either.

Moreover, Mr. Danquah debated that the Vice President’s suggestion to introduce policies such as tax breaks for movie producers, issuance of E-visa, creation of more digital streaming platforms for artists and improved tourism in the creative sector is impractical.

According to him, such policies do not solve the investment deficit the Creative Arts industry suffers and added that such proposed policies are bound to fail as the objective of the Creative Arts sector should be securing investments not implementing policies that do not work in an impoverished sector such as the Creative Art industry.

FOCAP to Refuse Dr. Bawumia’s Policy Suggestions for Creative Sector

More so, the President of FOCAP asserted that the Vice President’s vision for the Creative Art industry is not decent enough to be accepted by the FOCAP and its members.

Mr Danquah also argued that the policy suggestions of the Vice President are appalling and not beneficial to professionals in the sector. “…it is not something that FOCAP will want to really accept”, he stated.

In addition, Mr. Danquah asserted that per the track record of the Vice President and the NPP,, the Vice President’s policy suggestions for the improvement of the Creative Arts are unlikely to actualize if he wins power in the 2024 general elections on December 7.

He stated that the Vice President’s address on the Creative Arts sector is not well conceptualized to guarantee a possible execution.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, has received several criticisms concerning most of his policy suggestions in his address during the launch of his Presidential bid on the 7th of February 2024 at the University of Professional Studies Accra.

Some of the issues the Vice President has come under scrutiny after his address includes his proposed policies on taxation – E-levy specifically, digitalization and tourism.

The Vice President has also been chastised mainly by members of the opposition and other political critics concerning his role as the Vice President in the current NPP-led administration.
