Tems Discloses Views On Love

While love certainly involves strong emotions and attraction, it is not solely based on feelings experienced blindly.

Love goes beyond the initial spark and evolves into something deeper and more meaningful.

It requires a conscious choice to commit to someone and to work on the relationship with full awareness of both the joys and challenges that come with it.

Popular Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi popularly known as Tems, has opened up on her views on love, revealing that she has never been in love.

Tems expressed her disagreement with the popular saying, “Love is blind”. According to her, love is not a feeling experienced blindly but rather a conscious choice made with full awareness.

“I haven’t been in love. Loving someone for me is more of ‘I see you and I still want to be in your life. Even though you annoy me sometimes, I choose you and I choose you.’

“I would like to be in love, to experience something deep but really real, not blind. I don’t believe that love is blind; I think if you really love someone you’re loving them with your eyes open.”

Tems

Love often involves a desire for a long-term commitment, including emotional and practical support, while infatuation is more focused on the initial thrill and excitement of being with someone.

It’s important to recognize that infatuation is a part of the early stages of a relationship, but it should not be mistaken for love. Taking the time to truly get to know someone and build a strong foundation helps distinguish between infatuation and love.

The singer further elaborated that people often confuse infatuation with love.

According to Tems, true love involves seeing and accepting a person’s shortcomings.

“If you’re blind, that is not love. Love is when you’ve seen the person, their flaws are visible, and you’re like, ‘I still want it. I still want that’. I want someone to see my imperfections and still desire to be with me.”

Singer Discloses How She Avoided Seducing Producers

Tems revealed that early in her career, she wore baggy clothes to tone down her sexual appeal while working with producers and fellow musicians.

The ‘Crazy Things’ hitmaker explained that as a newcomer dedicated to her music career and the production process, she wanted to be taken seriously and not viewed as a distraction or propositioned by producers.

“I used to not always like my body. I just didn’t understand a lot of things. I was going to a lot of studios alone, meeting people I didn’t know and had never met. I’ll message people to ask them to teach me how to produce music for people.”

“So, because of my objective, which is just wanting to make music, if my being attractive is disturbing you and stopping me from achieving my goal, I am going to help you. So, when I go to the studio, I wear baggy clothes and I’m in my alpha mode because I want you to not be seduced by me.”

Tems

Tems indicated that her strategy worked because many people she worked with recognized her determination as an artist.

The “Wait For U” crooner noted she almost lost confidence in her appearance.

The Grammy-winning Nigerian singer believes that Nigerians do not understand her music.

While she is unsure if they appreciate her music, she does feel personally appreciated by Nigerians.

Tems has made a reputation for herself in the Nigerian music industry, receiving numerous prizes and recognition.

She rose to international prominence in 2020 after collaborating with Wizkid on the song ‘Essence’.

In February 2023, the singer received her first Grammy award.

She won the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ award for her role in Future’s 2022 hit song ‘Wait for U’, which features Drake.
