Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West and Communications Minister, has voiced her opposition to the notion of campaigning to become the running mate of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party.
She emphasized that such moves are disrespectful and infringe on the prerogative of the Presidential candidate to make decisions, undermining Dr. Bawumia’s authority in the process.
“Let him be given the space to choose the person he best thinks can partner with him. I think it is even disrespectful for people to be lobbying as if he can’t make his own decisions. Is that a position you lobby or gamble for? I am absolutely against any active seeking of any such position. It is an appointed position. I think the flagbearer should be left and given the space to decide who he thinks can best partner him”.

She appealed to the public to refrain from exerting pressure on Dr. Bawumia to select his running mate, allowing him the freedom to make his own decisions.
Meanwhile, demands for the NPP’s flagbearer to choose a female running mate have gained significant momentum in recent times, with increasing calls for gender diversity and representation in the party’s leadership.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful added that while her name may be mentioned in speculation, she has not expressed interest in any position to anyone, quelling rumors about her ambitions.

She also reiterated her long-held stance, first made eight years ago, that selecting a female running mate would be a fantastic decision, emphasizing the importance of gender diversity in leadership.
The MP emphatically stated that no journalist or media personality can credibly claim that she has ever reached out to them to promote her name or anyone else’s for any position, underscoring her commitment to merit and earned recognition.
Bawumia Highlights Achievements, Seeks Presidency
Meanwhile, NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, highlighted his impressive track record, boasting of successfully launching and driving 33 groundbreaking initiatives during his tenure under President Akufo-Addo’s administration, showcasing his impactful leadership.

Dr. Bawumia drew a stark contrast between his achievements and those of his political opponent, John Mahama, alleging that Mahama failed to introduce a single policy initiative during his tenure as both Vice President and President, highlighting their differing approaches to leadership and governance.
“Most people say I have been the most impactful Vice President in the history of Ghana, and that is based on my performance. If you look at the policies I have initiated and championed in the last 8 years, you can count 33 policies”.
