MFC Vows to break NPP- NDC Duopoly

Alan Kyeremanten Flag bearer of Movement For Change

With just four months to the December polls, Ghana’s smaller political parties are gearing up to break the duopoly of the NPP and NDC. One such party is the Movement for Change (MFC), led by the former Trades Minister Alan Kyerematen.

Courage Nobi, Director of Communication for Alan’s team for Movement for Change, made remarkable expressions about the Party’s manifesto and policies.  Mr. Nobi asserted that the campaign is going well, with Alan recently touring the Bono region and receiving a warm response from traders.

“He’s the one they can trust. He’s the one who understands their circumstances. And he can put in place the policy environment that will allow their enterprises to thrive.”

“One of Alan’s key promises is to establish a bank to support market women. Nobi explained that this is necessary because “the biggest challenge to traders in this country is financing. The current rate is above 30%, and the average profit margin is about 20%. So, if I’m borrowing at 30%, it means that my profit cannot even finance the loan.”

Mr. Nobi highlighted that the government will provide seed money, which will be paid back through a revolving fund. “We’ve done it before, and we can do it again. Already, government is borrowing a lot to finance quite a number of their projects. But what Alan is saying is that going forward, infrastructure development would not be government-financed.

Mr. Nobi emphasized the key policy in the party’s manifesto is to reduce taxes and give Ghana a low-income tax regime. Nobi further explained that this is possible because “everything is linked.

Mr. Nobi Made referenced to the Great Transformational Plan (GTP), this he stated clearly that the great transformational plan is directly connected to natural resources, in this regard, they will review all existing contracts with the mining companies and outlaw or pass a law that requires them to add value to 60% of whatever natural resource they mine before exports.

Mr. Nobi highlighted that Alan would delay with illegal mining, well known as “galamsey” by the Ghanaians.

“Stopping illegal mining is a matter of law and commitment. It’s a matter of dedication. The government is not dedicated enough… Alan says, I will deal with it.” Mr. Nobi also addressed concerns about Alan’s credibility, given his past membership in the NPP. “Yes, there is collective responsibility, but that does not excuse individual accountability.

Mr. Nobi emphasized that any of the ministers who served in the incumbent government cannot account for their stewardship as individuals.

Mr. Nobi asserted that when the Movement for Change come to power, they would pay attention to fight corruption. Nobi added that Alan Kyerematen the flag bearer of the Movement for Change plans to consolidate all legislation and create an omnibus czar of fighting corruption.

“We have so many different legislations spread out… Why don’t we consolidate all these provisions, [ Than ] have one specific individual boasted with a legislation that gives him the power to prosecute, the power to investigate and prosecute?”

Courage Nobi, Director of Communication for Alan’s team

Nobi argued that Alan’s track record and commitment to fighting corruption make him the best candidate for president. “I think he deserves the trust of the people… He has not been corrupt, he is not corrupt, and he will never be corrupt.”
