Oxlade Reveals Why He Dropped Out of LASU in Final Year

Oxlade

Nigerian Afropop singer, Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman, popularly known as Oxlade, has stated that he dropped out of school because he was targeted by gangs.

According to the singer, he dropped out of Lagos State University in his final year, because leaving the school environment was the best decision for him.

The ‘Ku lo sa’ crooner described the situation as a “crazy time”.

“I dropped out of the university in my final year because it was a crazy time. There were some gangs after me because I’m a fine boy. Being a fine boy makes you a target. It is either you join them or they o** you. So I had to leave that environment.”

Oxlade

Oxlade further revealed the university he attended Lagos State University (LASU), admonishing that people should go and read about the school.

“Now, they’re more focused on academics. I think they’ve realized how fragile life is and how important it is to pursue your dreams, so they’ve cracked down on that kind of behavior. Now everyone is chasing money, but at that time, it was a hot period.”

Oxlade

“After I left school, I ran away from home because I couldn’t tell my family why I dropped out,” he revealed.

Meanwhile, the singer warmed the hearts of his fans as he welcomed his father on stage at his album listening party on Wednesday, September 18.

Oxlade also shared an astonishing fact about his early life.

The singer shared on Instagram, where he disclosed that his parents informed him of his remarkable talent.

“I started singing before I started talking. My parents told me that I started singing before I could even talk. I sang faster than catching up with talks. That was what my parents told me. I feel like that was where it [my talent] all started from.”

Singer Recounts The Moment He Realized Love Is Overrated

Oxlade

Oxlade opened up about his experience with love and heartbreak, explaining the basis behind his popular lyric ‘I feel like love is overrated.’

The singer shared his experience with an ex-girlfriend. Oxlade, evidently hesitant to name-drop his ex-lover, simply stated “A thing” got them separated.

“I feel like you don’t do evil for evil, that’s giving her bad PR. I can’t expose her, my community will. Trust me, there are stalkers that go crazy; they will find you. I promise you, it’s the internet,” he added, explaining why he did not want to expose the identity of his ex-girlfriend.

When the singer was asked what transpired between the former lovebirds, and why he felt that love was overrated, Oxlade stressed that society had a hand to play in the end of their relationship.

Recalling an incident, he narrated that it’s not what his ex-girlfriend did to him, but what that community did to them.

“Back then, I didn’t even have the bread so it was all true love. Just true love and words of affirmation. There was this time when I was in her hostel and I heard her friends ask her, ‘Girl, what are you doing with Oxlade?'”

Oxlade

Oxlade revealed that that experience broke him and changed his perspective on love and relationships.

“I was at the door and when I entered, their demeanour changed. That thing broke me and from then on I saw the patterns change until I saw her with the same guy she said she wasn’t seeing.

“This was at a very early stage in my life, during my hustle era. That was the moment I learned that love is sweet o, but it’s not everywhere. You can’t find true love everywhere and you must be lucky, God wants you to see love before you can find it.”
