The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has officially announced the commencement of an online re-exhibition exercise for the Provisional Voters Register (PVR) starting from Tuesday, 15th October 2024.

Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman, Operations of the commission, in a statement, indicated that the initiative, which will run until Saturday, 19th October 2024, is aimed at providing registered voters and all stakeholders the opportunity to review their voter registration details and report any discrepancies for correction.

“The Public may recall that during the Special IPAC meeting held on 1st October, the Commission assured the Public that the revised PVR will be re-exhibited Online for registered voters to check their details and report any discrepancies to the Commission for correction”.

This move is seen as a crucial step in addressing potential errors ahead of the December 2024 general elections.

How to Check Voter Registration Details

Beginning on 15th October, registered voters can verify their details through two convenient methods, including a short Code Verification, where Voters can dial *711*51# free of charge on their mobile phones to access their voter details.

Secondly, voters can visit the Commission’s official website (https://ec.gov.gh). By clicking on a pop-up link located at the bottom-right corner of the homepage and entering their 10-digit Voter ID number, voters will be able to retrieve their registration details.

The EC emphasized that any discrepancies identified during this period must be reported to the District Office where the voter is registered, adding that this measure will ensure that corrections are made promptly before the upcoming elections.

However, the Commission cautioned that after the exercise ends on 19th October, voters will still be able to check their details online but will no longer have the opportunity to request corrections.

The short window for corrections underscores the importance for all registered voters to act swiftly. Voters who fail to verify their details or report any discrepancies during the five-day re-exhibition period risk being disenfranchised due to errors that could have been easily corrected.

Political Parties’ Role in the Re-Exhibition Process

In addition to individual voter participation, political parties are also required to play an active role in this re-exhibition process.

The Electoral Commission indicated that it has provided a specific template for political parties to submit any discrepancies identified during the exercise. This collaborative effort is aimed at further strengthening the accuracy of the voter register.

This online re-exhibition exercise is part of the broader electoral process aimed at ensuring that Ghana’s voter register is clean, accurate, and reflective of the eligible voting population.

The EC’s decision to facilitate this re-exhibition online offers greater convenience and accessibility, particularly for voters who may not be able to physically visit district offices.

By extending the option to check voter details via both mobile and web platforms, the Commission has sought to eliminate logistical challenges that have previously hampered such exercises.

This innovation reflects the EC’s drive to adopt technology to enhance voter participation and ensure the integrity of the electoral roll.

The EC’s online re-exhibition initiative signals its proactive approach to resolving concerns around voter registration errors ahead of the December 2024 elections.

As the countdown to Election Day continues, the Commission is expected to intensify its efforts to ensure that all registered voters have an opportunity to confirm their eligibility and address any issues.

Voters and political parties are therefore urged to make full use of the re-exhibition period and work closely with the EC to ensure a smooth, credible electoral process.

For further inquiries, the Electoral Commission advised the public to contact their respective District Offices for assistance.
