Nadia Buari Narrates Story Behind Character Name ‘Beyonce’

Nadia Buari

Renowned Ghanaian actress, Nadia Buari has disclosed the story behind the famous character name, ‘Beyonce’ in the 2006 blockbuster movie.

Nadia played a lead role in the movie ‘Beyonce: The President’s Daughter’ which was released in 2006.

According to her, the movie is one which brought her to the limelight and catapulted her career. Interestingly, her character name was not meant to be ‘Beyonce’ in the movie.

Nadia Buari revealed that she personally chose the name, ‘Beyonce’ with the belief that the name was going to serve the right purpose of her role.

“I think it would be Beyonce because Beyonce was everywhere and you know what’s crazy so the character wasn’t originally called Beyonce. When I got the script, immediately I could relate and called the producer and said to him that I really believe this movie would catapult my career so if I want to be known by any name, I would like to be known by Beyonce.

“So, I chose that name and when I said to him, he said sure, of course as long as you can give me what I want.”

The revered actress believes the saturation of social media now has caused producers and directors to double efforts toward the promotion of movies.

“Due to the diversities of viewing outlets via social media outlets now, I think the hunger that people had for movies is wind. I think it’s not as before because now everybody’s go-to entertainment is on their phone or TikTok while social media is great, I feel like when it’s really saturated, it derails people’s attention.”

She noted that she feels like now the work to create awareness for people to know should be done ten times. “It is very different now as compared to when we started,” she added.

Why Nadia Buari Ventured Into Producing

Ghanaian actress, Nadia Buari opened up on why she ventured into producing movies aside from her role as an actress.

The actress said she decided because she was tired of playing the ‘lover girl’ roles she usually receives. According to her, this decision was to challenge herself to be other characters.

“I got into movie producing because I felt I wasn’t challenged enough. I felt the scripts that I was receiving and the roles that I played were not challenging enough.

“I am a thriller and horror freak and every time I got a script it was either a lover girl or I was after somebody’s boyfriend and I just got tired of that. I had too many stories and I felt like if I ventured into producing my own movies, I could play the character I have always wanted to play.”

Nadia has been able to produce four movies and still counting.

After a hiatus from acting, Nadia Buari is back on the screens with ‘Forever In A Night’, produced by John N. Okwugo and directed by Jameel Buari.

According to Nadia Buari, ‘Forever In A Night’ was born out of a dream. “So I had a dream, and I was in the dream,” she said.

She further stated that she never went on a long break as people speculated.

“Everyone says I went on a long break, but I never did. People just didn’t look out for my movies because I’ve been working.”

The movie will premiere on November 9, 2024, at the Accra Mall and West Hills Mall in Accra.

Apart from Nadia Buari, the movie also stars Godwin Namboh, Samera Buari, Queenstar Anaafi, and Fred Sarpong.

The film explores the life of a woman who seems to have it all, only to have her world shattered in a single night.
