Labour Leader Urges Change

Abraham Koomson, Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), has cautioned Ghanaians against supporting the current government.

Koomson urged the Ghanaian electorates to vote for change and reset the country’s fundamentals.

According to him, a vote for the NPP would condone corruption and perpetuate economic hardship.

“Let us not endorse the evils of our society; let us wake up and tell the NPP that enough is enough. Election 2024 is a moment for political accountability.

“We should not allow the current crop of NPP under Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia to escape accounting to the people for their ills over the past eight years. Let us vote them out. Let us vote for Mr. John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to form the next government to reset the country.”

Koomson further emphasized that to secure their future and that of generations to come, Ghanaians must vote for NDC Presidential Candidate, Mr. Mahama, on December 7th.

He urged Ghanaian workers to reject the NPP and its 2024 Presidential Candidate, Dr. Bawumia, in the upcoming general elections, citing Dr. Bawumia’s harmful economic policies as the reason.

According to Koomson, Dr. Bawumia’s leadership of the government’s Economic Management Team has led Ghana’s economy to the brink of collapse, causing financial hardship for workers.

He also noted that the NPP is attempting to shift blame for their poor governance, but Ghanaians are suffering and must vote for change. “Let us not make the mistake of voting for the NPP“.

The GFL General Secretary stressed that Dr. Bawumia’s economic management track record raises serious doubts about his ability to lead the country effectively as president.”The NPP only packaged him in 2016 to deceive Ghanaians for the sake of election”.

He pointed out that now that the NPPs and Dr. Bawumia’s economic credentials have been exposed, it’s clear that their governance fundamentals have failed to deliver as the local currency continues to fall against major currencies.

Koomson Blames Bawumia for Economic Woes

Furthermore, Abraham Koomson stated that the challenges Ghanaian workers face today can be attributed to policies pushed by the Economic Management Team headed by Dr. Bawumia.

Koomson encouraged workers to reflect on their struggles when they head to the polls on December 7th to vote, urging them to vote wisely.

He advised the public to vote particularly in response to the widespread frustration with the current economic hardships.

Koomson also urged those struggling with unemployment to remain steadfast and use the ballot box as a way to voice their discontent.

“Even if the current government offers you incentives through covert means, accept it, but remember that those incentives are not permanent, but vote inducement, vote for change, and vote for the security of the future of this nation.

“If someone gives you money to vote, take it, but remember to vote with your conscience for a better future, vote for change, let us use our votes to speak against bad governance, and let us embrace change.”

Accordingly, Koomson urged the NDC to take a strong leadership role to prevent what he believes would be a damaging outcome for workers if the NPP wins another term.

He voiced concern that an NPP victory would have severe negative consequences for both citizens and the labor force and emphasized the need for change to improve Ghana’s economic landscape.

The GFL Secretary-General noted that the minimum wage is grossly inadequate, considering the current economic conditions: “Now that the cost of a standard loaf of bread is higher than the minimum wage, this is unacceptable.

He also urged unions to demand a fair share of the national resources and better working conditions. “Ghanaian workers are grappling with high cost of living and inflation.“

Accordingly,  Koomson cautioned the government on the Cedi’s depreciation and tax policies.

He urged labor unions to unite and fight for fair shares, and higher salaries, and to confront anyone whose actions harm workers’ interests.
