Ghanaians Reject Corruption, Incompetence, and Arrogance- Kennedy

Dr. Arthur Kobina Kennedy, a political activist and analyst, stated that Ghanaians’ verdict is clear as they have rejected corruption, incompetence, arrogance, and a disregard for the national interest in this December 2024 election.

He congratulated the voters for their wisdom and discernment, pointing out that they have consistently voted for change—just as they did in 2000, 2008, and 2016—only to be let down by their leaders.

Kennedy emphasized that the real issue in Ghana has always been leadership, not the citizens, a problem that dates back to the founding of the Republic.

“Next, let me congratulate President-elect John Mahama for his miraculous come-back. Not many people have a second chance in politics. As you, Sir, have said before, ‘Vindication is in the womb of time’. That time, Sir, is now. Seize this time, to write your name on the right side of history.

“Fight corruption and let there be accountability for what has been done to our country. Fight incompetence. Stop the arrogance and impunity. Halt Galamsey and strengthen institutions”.

He also urged Mahama to demonstrate that the nation is not one with alternating one-party states focused on looting public funds, highlighting the need to fight corruption.

Kennedy suggested that Mahama start his term by condemning and distancing himself from the NDC’s vigilantes. “We had an election, not a coup!”

He highlighted that the NPP’s Steering Committee issued a statement pledging to “initiate consensus-building engagements to develop a clear pathway to probe the outcome of the election.”

According to Kennedy, the statement also called on the public to condemn the looting of EC offices.

He remarked on the irony, pointing out that the same party remained silent when vigilantes stormed courtrooms to free foot soldiers, citizens were killed during the 2020 elections, and the Ayawaso West-Wuogon violence occurred. “Ladies and gentlemen, this nkwaseas3m is happening now because of the nonsense we tolerated and encouraged”.

NPP’s Loss Blamed on Corruption, Arrogance, Failed Leadership

Furthermore, Arthur Kobina Kennedy urged the NPP to end its attacks on the NDC, cautioning that “an eye for an eye will leave us all blind.”

He added that there is no need for a probe into the election outcome, as the reasons for the party’s defeat are clear.

Kennedy attributed the NPP’s loss to eight years of corruption, incompetence, arrogance, and failure to tackle illegal mining (galamsey).

NPP SUPPORTERS

“Then we picked the public face of this crime against Ghanaians– the man who argued that one dollar to four cedis was too high but the fundamentals were sound with one dollar to 16 cedis– the man we touted as the most influential VP in our history who transformed into a mere Aplanke at election time– to lead us boldly over the precipice.

“But the rot was wider than Dr. Bawumia. Ashanti which used to be led by the likes of Donkor Fordjour is now led by Wontumi! Prempeh College, which gave us Kufuor and Crabbe now gives us Napo and Wontumi!”

Kennedy lamented that the NPP, a party built by selfless patriots has been hijacked by opportunistic leaders driven by wealth accumulation.

He criticized the rise of the “Kyebi Mafia” and “Galamsey Incorporated” within the party, blaming silence and inaction from senior figures, including JA Kufuor, for enabling the decline.

Kennedy stated that the NPP can and must be rebuilt on its founding principles.

He noted that Dr. Bawumia’s primary campaign was far from the hardest-working, pointing to John Kufuor’s 1996 and 1998 campaigns as the gold standard.

According to Kennedy, Kufuor was hardworking, humble, and financially constrained, yet he still won.

He recalled how Kufuor slept on cots in towns like Bimbilla and Yendi, describing him as the party’s last true grassroots leader. “Let us rebuild an NPP that is as good as its footsoldiers and the Ghanaian masses”.
