Entertainment pundit and the Member of Parliament-Elect of the Gomoa Central Constituency, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has recounted how his deceased father contributed to his victory in the recently held election.

A Plus revealed that a day before the demise of his father, he called all the chiefs in the Gomoa Central Constituency and asked them to throw their weight behind A Plus for his MP bid.

He said even though his father initially didn’t like his idea of talking about politicians in his songs, he later got his support when he declared his intention to get into mainstream politics.

“A day before my father passed, we had a long conversation. He went into a coma when I was in London. I spoke to him thirty minutes before, and then my sister called and asked if I had heard what had happened.”

He disclosed that his sister told him their father was not well and had been taken to the hospital just a few minutes after speaking with him.

“For four days he was in a coma. After four days, when he came back he said he had died and resurrected so he knew how death felt like.”

A Plus said when his father returned from the hospital he said he needed to do “his thing” for him to win the election.

“When my father came back we spoke at length, then he called every chief a day before he died to support me. It was his last wish and you know our people, they take some of these things seriously.”

According to the musician-turned-politician, the chiefs rallied behind him and even attended his father’s funeral in their numbers because of the foundation his father laid for him.

A Plus has promised to serve the interest of his constituents as he heads to parliament. He revealed that he would only go for two terms as a Member of Parliament and pursue a Presidential bid after that.

As an independent candidate, A Plus secured 14,277 votes in the December 7 election, defeating the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) incumbent MP, Naana Eyiah Quansah, by a margin of 2,640 votes.

Naana Eyiah Quansah garnered 11,637 votes, while other parliamentary candidates collectively polled 10,112 votes.

A Plus Challenges Groups Concerning “Dumsor” Silence

A Plus urged influential Akan, civil organizations like the Danquah Institute, and organizations like the Christian Council to speak out against the ‘dumsor’ that is currently plaguing the nation.

According to A Plus, these individuals are “fully aware” of the happenings in the country.

“Ghana is currently facing load-shedding, commonly known as ‘dumsor’. All these individuals, groups, and organizations are fully aware that the country is experiencing ‘dumsor’ due to the incompetence of the overhyped Akufo Addo’s administration.

“Yet, they remain silent, seemingly waiting for John Mahama to assume office so they can quickly mobilize to declare that he has brought ‘dumsor’ back.”

A Plus

To the Christian Council, A Plus advised that they speak now or forever hold their peace. “Be like Christ, who was unbiased and fearless,” he added.

Citing an example in the Bible, the MP-elect revealed that God looked the Pharisees in the eye and told them the truth, adding that the truth should be told by the Councils and Groups.

“Do not reserve your voices for only when the NDC is in power. Speak up now and tell the nation the truth, that Ghana is currently experiencing ‘dumsor’. That the economy is bad.

“Do not wait for John Mahama to be sworn in before you start speaking out, like Balaam’s donkey in the Bible. You are human beings, not donkeys—act like it!”
