Parliament Announces Registration and Key Events for the 9th Parliament

The Parliamentary Service of Ghana has announced the commencement of registration for elected Members of the 9th Parliament of the 4th Republic. 

The registration process, which is a crucial preparatory step for the dissolution of the current Parliament and the inauguration of the new one, is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, starting with online registration.   

According to a statement issued by Camillo Pwamang, Deputy Coordinator of the Dissolution/Inauguration Committee and Deputy Clerk to Parliament, targeted messages containing registration invitations will be sent to Members-elect via WhatsApp or email.

“Targeted messages inviting members will be sent to members elect via WhatsApp or emails. Physical registration will start on Thursday 2nd January 2025 and end on 6th January 2025”.

The statement further noted that members requiring further clarifications or assistance during the process are advised to contact the designated officers at 055 022 2200 or 050 363 4466.  

Key Dates for Dissolution and Inauguration   

The Parliamentary Service outlined significant events marking the dissolution of the 8th Parliament and the inauguration of the 9th Parliament.

The first on the list of the event is the election and swearing-in of the Speaker-Elect and Members-Elect, which according to the statement is scheduled on Monday, January 6, 2025, at exactly 11:00 PM.

The statement indicated that the arrival time for Members-Elect is  9:00 PM, urging members to be seated by the said time.  The Speaker-Elect and Members-Elect will be sworn in at 12:00 Midnight.  

Swearing-in of the President-Elect and Vice President-Elect is also scheduled on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Independence Square, Accra with the ceremony beginning at 10:00 AM.   

Honourable Members are to be seated by 9:00 AM with the statement adding that Honourable Members will be conveyed by buses departing from Parliament premises at 8:00 AM sharp.  

The Parliamentary Service emphasized the importance of time management during these events. Honourable Members are entreated to adhere strictly to the timelines to ensure smooth and successful proceedings.  

This announcement signals the beginning of a critical transitional period for Ghana’s Parliament as it prepares for the responsibilities of the 9th Parliament, underscoring the importance of seamless coordination and adherence to the outlined schedules.
