Ada Salt Concession: A Multi-Million Dollar Opportunity

Electrochem Ghana has addressed reports of an alleged altercation between its workers and the people of Ada, categorically denying the claims.

The company stated that the circulating video, purportedly depicting a clash between its security personnel and the local indigenes, is a misrepresentation of the events.

In a statement, Electrochem described the video as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public, asserting that it does not reflect the true nature of the situation.

The company further suggested that the video appears to be part of a calculated agenda by certain groups seeking to tarnish its reputation and undermine its operations.

“On Monday, December 23, 2024, security personnel doing their usual patrol on Electrochem Ghana Limited’s concession saw some illegal miners who have invaded the concession to mine in the Songor lagoon (evaporators).

“The lagoon has been restored by Electrochem Ghana Limited after years of degradation due to the activities of illegal miners. The security personnel successfully managed to peacefully resolve the situation after a 30-minute peaceful engagement”.

Electrochem further reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peaceful relations with the communities it operates in and emphasized that such misinformation only serves to create unnecessary tension and damage the goodwill it has built over the years.

Electrochem Ghana Limited also highlighted its substantial investment in the Ada community since assuming control of the concession.

Electrochem Highlights Community Investments

The company revealed that it has poured millions of dollars into the restoration of the lagoon, transforming it into a thriving ecosystem that now serves as an additional source of livelihood for the local fisherfolk.

This initiative, according to Electrochem, underscores its commitment to fostering sustainable development and improving the economic well-being of the Ada community.

By revitalizing the lagoon, the company has preserved a vital natural resource to enhance livelihoods, contributing to the overall growth and prosperity of the region.

Furthermore, Electrochem Ghana Limited emphasized that since assuming control of the concession, the company has implemented several initiatives aimed at enhancing the livelihoods of the people of Ada.

Notable among these are the Out-Grower Scheme and the establishment of community pans, both designed to provide local residents with access to high-quality brine.

The company explained that these initiatives enable the people of Ada to produce premium-grade salt sustainably, free of charge.

This approach, according to Electrochem, aligns with its commitment to empowering the community, promoting sustainable salt production practices, and ensuring that the economic benefits of the concession extend directly to the local population.

These measures, the company stated, reflect its dedication to fostering inclusive growth and creating opportunities for long-term development within the Ada community.

“Electrochem Ghana Limited remains committed to working with all stakeholders to find sustainable solutions that benefit everyone. The company maintains open channels of communication with all community representatives to address concerns and ensure equitable access to resources while preserving the lagoon’s ecological integrity.

“The company has therefore spoken to the Member of Parliament and offers a continuous dialogue to have a peaceful resolution and understanding of the good work the company does in the community and the country as a whole”.

Electrochem also highlighted that it is a wholly Ghanaian-owned company, established in 2017 and duly registered under the laws of Ghana.

The company prides itself on being strategically positioned to capitalize on more than two decades of accumulated expertise and resources to drive investments and maximize returns in the salt and chemical industries.

Electrochem noted that it has acquired a significant concession spanning 41,000 acres at Ada Songor, which it aims to develop into a major production hub.

According to the company, its goal is to produce an impressive 1,000,000 metric tons of salt annually, catering to both local and international markets.
