Renowned Ghanaian actress and TV host, Nana Ama McBrown has disclosed that she spent over GH₵90,000 on school fees for underprivileged students in 2024.

This gesture, she revealed, is part of her way of giving back to Ghanaians for the unwavering love and support they have shown her throughout her career in the movie and media industries.

The actress and brand ambassador explained the motivation behind her humanitarian efforts: “I need to give back to show my appreciation to Ghanaians for the love and support they’ve shown me over the years.”

McBrown further shared that she sets aside a portion of her earnings to support her charitable works whenever she is paid for the endorsement deals she secures with brands.

Interestingly, she emphasized that her acts of generosity are often done quietly. “I pay my tithes more on the street than in church,” she said, adding that she prefers to conduct most of her philanthropic activities away from the cameras.

However, she admitted that her birthday donations are usually publicized because they are supported by the brands she represents, and it is important to show them that their contributions have been delivered as intended.

In an interview, the screen diva was asked if she had plans to document her legacy through a book or documentary.

She revealed that she completed such a project about two and a half years ago with assistance from entertainment journalist Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo. However, she noted that the project is yet to be released.

When asked about her ability to secure numerous brand deals, Nana Ama McBrown attributed her success to God’s favor and grace.

She also expressed deep gratitude to her uncle for the pivotal name change from Felicity Agyemang to Nana Ama McBrown, which she believes marked a significant turning point in her career.

“Because of my humility and hard work, I put in my brand (Nana Ama McBrown). That is what helped me to obtain more ambassadorial deals.”

McBrown further emphasized the importance of understanding her employers, which she believes has been key in maintaining strong partnerships with the brands she represents.

Known for her versatility and infectious personality, Nana Ama McBrown has not only won the hearts of Ghanaians as an actress and TV host but also as a philanthropist committed to making a difference in the lives of others.

Her acts of kindness continue to set her apart as a shining example of using success to uplift those in need.

McBrown Addresses Allegations Linking to Suzzy Williams’ Death

In a candid revelation, Nana Ama McBrown addressed long-standing allegations linking her to the tragic death of fellow actress Suzzy Williams.

It will be recalled that Suzzy Williams passed away on September 8, 2005, in a car crash at the age of 23, and her death indeed sent shockwaves throughout Ghana.

Following her death, rumors did circulate, alleging that Nana Ama McBrown had played a role in the tragedy, supposedly motivated by jealousy and competition within the entertainment industry.

However, McBrown expressed shock and heartbreak over accusations that she had a hand in the fatal car crash that claimed the young thespian’s life.

McBrown recalled how she first heard of the tragic news.

“I had just returned to Ghana from a trip to Italy with the late gospel singer Seth Frimpong. While in a minibus heading home, I heard in the car that Suzzy had passed away.”

She added that she immediately called their senior colleague, Kofi Adjorlolo, who confirmed the news, revealing he was at the mortuary where Suzzy’s body had been sent.

The actress expressed her devastation upon hearing accusations linking her to the death.

“I was shocked and heartbroken. Why would I do such an abominable thing? Suzzy was like a sister to me. We worked together frequently, and there was no competition or jealousy between us.”

Nana Ama McBrown

McBrown firmly denied any involvement in the tragedy, explaining that the claims hurt her deeply, especially because of how close she and Williams were.

She again refuted notions of jealousy or competition, asserting that such dynamics were nonexistent between them at that time.

Suzzy Williams was a rising star in Ghana’s film industry, known for her performances in movies like ‘Bloody Mary’, ‘The Comforter’, and ‘Together Forever’.

A product of Tema Secondary School, Williams showcased her acting and singing talents from a young age. Her career, though brief, left an indelible mark on the industry.

Her death on September 8, 2005, occurred on the La-Nungua highway in Accra during the early hours of the morning. Williams was reportedly in the car with her boyfriend at the time.

The tragic incident sparked public outcry and led to the establishment of the Suzzy Williams Memorial Fund to assist victims of road traffic accidents.

Years later, her mother, Cecilia Williams, alleged in a 2019 interview that her daughter may have been murdered.

Speaking in an interview, she claimed Suzzy was still alive when she arrived at the hospital, despite earlier reports stating she had died on the spot.

According to her, suspicious actions by medical personnel raised questions about the circumstances of her daughter’s death.
