Malik Basintale Assumes Office as YEA CEO, Vows to Create Sustainable Jobs

Malik Basintale, the Deputy National Communications Officer of the ruling National Democratic Congress has officially assumed office as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA). 

Addressing staff and stakeholders at his maiden engagement, Malik Basintale emphasized his unwavering commitment to creating sustainable jobs for the country’s youth, declaring it a matter of both national development and security.

“It’s good to see all of you. I feel the environment is safe for all of us to update ourselves. There shouldn’t be any fear. I have one mandate: to deliver jobs to the unemployed youth. It is very dear to my heart.”

Drawing attention to the broader implications of unemployment, the National Democratic Congress’s Deputy National Communications Officer highlighted the risks it poses to national security.  “The more people get unemployed, the more they pick up arms and engage in all sorts of things. And you and I, who are employed, will be at risk,” he stated.

He stressed the need for collective efforts in addressing the unemployment crisis, not only by providing jobs but also by equipping young people with the skills necessary to become self-reliant.

“It’s incumbent on us to create sustainable jobs and give the youth the skills to create jobs for themselves. If one person at YEA sets up their own institution and recruits others, it adds to the solution roadmap for unemployment. These may be indirect jobs for YEA but are direct contributions to the nation.”

Rejecting Corruption, Embracing Accountability

In a direct and stern message, Malik Basintale issued a call for integrity among public servants. admonishing against the penchant acquisition of wealth among public servants.

“If you intend to make money in the public sector, then today, you better resign and go home. We are not here to make money for ourselves but to create jobs for ordinary Ghanaians and make His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama proud”.

He underscored the moral obligation of public servants to prioritize service delivery over personal gain, positioning YEA as a pivotal institution in advancing the nation’s development agenda.

Acknowledging the contributions of his predecessor, Kofi Baah Agyepong, Malik Basintale praised the outgoing CEO for his accomplishments while setting an ambitious vision for his tenure. 

“The cooperation of the outgoing CEO is evident; he did something good. It’s our core responsibility to do better than what he has done. He has given us a challenge, and we must rise to it by working hard to create sustainable jobs for the youth.”

Basintale’s speech resonated with a sense of urgency and purpose. “There is no cause for alarm. Ours is to work hard, create sustainable jobs, and ensure that, at the end of President Mahama’s four-year tenure, he will be recognized as a successful leader,” he concluded.

The Youth Employment Agency plays a critical role in addressing youth unemployment in Ghana, a challenge Basintale framed as both a moral imperative and a security priority.

His vision for YEA reflects not only a focus on job creation but also on fostering a culture of integrity, innovation, and service within the public sector.
