Burna Boy Becomes First African Artiste to Receive Plaque for 2 Billion Streams in UK

Burna Boy

Grammy-winning superstar, Burna Boy, has added another SNEP certification to his collection.

The singer recently earned a new platinum SNEP certification courtesy of ‘Donne-Moi L’accord,’ a collaboration with French hitmaker Dadju.

The song, released in 2019, has enjoyed commercial success, especially digitally, where it has garnered over 50 million Spotify streams.

This marks another certification for Burna Boy in 2025, where he also recently earned an RIAA gold certification for his song ‘Alone’, one of the songs off the ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ soundtrack album.

The song is one of the standout tracks on the compilation album that also had guest appearances from Nigerian superstars Rema and Fireboy.

‘Alone’ was nominated for Best Global Song Performance at the 2023 Grammys, and it has garnered 164 million Spotify streams, making it the second most streamed song on the album behind Rihanna’s ‘Lift Me Up’.

The song becomes Burna Boy’s sixth RIAA certification and fourth solo plaque as he continues to reinforce himself as one of Africa’s leading global stars.

The 10-time Grammy nominee is gearing up for a busy 2025, where he’s expected to release his eighth album, ‘No Sign of Weakness’.

The album was preceded by the singles ‘Higher,’ which was nominated for Best African Song Performance at the 67th Grammys, and ‘Bundle By Bundle,’ which was released in December 2024. The latest single is ‘Update,’ released in February 2025.

The hitmaker made history by becoming the first artist to cover Billboard France Magazine. In the interview, the multi-award-winning star spoke on the global success of Nigerian music and his role as a major player.

With his upcoming album, Burna Boy will be aiming to continue his remarkable commercial run that has seen all of his last four albums earn Grammy nominations.

He’s also the first Nigerian artist to have three albums surpass 500 million Spotify streams.

Spotify doesn’t pay artists a fixed rate, instead, it uses a streamshare system where payout ranges from different factors. One factor is the country of the listeners as higher subscription fees pay artists more than those with lower fees.

Spotify pools revenue from subscriptions and ads, keeps about 30 percent, and distributes the remaining 70 percent to rights holders based on their share of total streams.

The Nigerian singer is making headlines for showing off his wristwatch collection.

Just recently, the Grammy-winning musician took to his Instagram stories to share a video of some of the expensive wristwatches in his collection.

Burna Boy had laid out 12 of these wristwatches on the bed in his private jet. The timepieces included some Patek Philippe, Richard Mille’s, APs, and other luxury designs known to be worth thousands of dollars.

The timepieces also came in a range of different colours including yellow, blue, white, and even diamond-studded.

The video of Burna Boy’s collection of expensive designer wristwatches triggered a discussion among netizens.

Several of them were in awe of the expensive timepieces as they debated how much they were worth, while others argued that the Grammy-winning musician is too big to be showing off.
